It's been a year since I started living in Korea — still a newbie, haha!

Today I went to a Dunpo, Asan restaurant that's always packed with customers in the evening — Ilpum Chamsut Galbi.
Every time I passed by, I wondered why it was always so busy. After eating there once, I finally understood.
With generous, high-quality side dishes and delicious pork galbi, my husband and I ate until we were properly stuffed.

So today I want to introduce Ilpum Chamsut Galbi, a BBQ restaurant located in the Dunpo Techno Valley area of Asan!
Where is Ilpum Chamsut Galbi, and what are the hours and parking?
Ilpum Chamsut Galbi is a charcoal BBQ restaurant located on the 1st floor of 3 Jungangongwon-ro 17beon-gil, Dunpo-myeon, Asan-si, Chungnam. It's open Mondays 16:00–23:00 and Tuesday through Sunday 11:00–23:00, with a weekday break time of 14:30–16:00 and last order at 22:00.

Ilpum Chamsut Galbi is located in Dunpo's restaurant district, so it's easy to find.

There's a large public parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so parking was easy and stress-free.

Arriving at 5pm: Ilpum Chamsut Galbi was full by the time we left
The interior of Ilpum Chamsut Galbi is clean and pleasant despite being a BBQ restaurant, so it seemed like a good spot for a group dinner. When we arrived around 5pm, there were no other customers, but as if everyone had made a plan together, the place was packed with people by the time we left — I really felt why this is a well-known Dunpo restaurant.

Seasoned raw crab and acorn jelly as free side dishes at a BBQ restaurant
I wondered why it was so popular, but the side dish spread was genuinely generous for a BBQ restaurant — my husband said a place with real roots is different.

I'm still a bit squeamish about raw seafood, but my husband loved that a BBQ restaurant served everything from yangnyeom gejang (seasoned raw crab) to cool acorn jelly.

What's on the menu at Ilpum Chamsut Galbi
The menu has both meat dishes and meal options — pork galbi, Jeju pork belly, fresh pork neck, and premium galbi meat, plus a wide range of meal items like nurungji (scorched rice soup), mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon (cold noodles), dolsot bap (stone pot rice), ureong doenjang jjigae, steamed egg, corn cheese, crab, and skate.

Three servings of pork galbi for two: was 750g enough?
I'd heard that if you're looking for good food in Asan Techno Valley, the pork galbi at Ilpum Chamsut Galbi is a must-try, so we ordered three servings.

Each serving is 250g. We debated ordering just two servings, but worried it wouldn't be enough, so we got three — the portion was generous and the quality of the pork galbi was great!

The moment the meat hit the hot charcoal grill, there was a sizzling sound and a delicious smell that got our appetites going!

Ureong doenjang jjigae plus free corn and steamed egg
While we were grilling the pork galbi, sweet corn cheese and steamed egg came out as complimentary service, and the ureong doenjang jjigae and rice we'd ordered arrived right away too.
You have to try the ureong doenjang jjigae! We finished it down to the last drop of broth — it was packed with tofu, mussels, and vegetables, and the broth was so refreshing it felt like it cleared everything out.

How the charcoal-grilled pork galbi tasted
Eating the pork galbi alongside the delicious stew and side dishes, I could really taste the charcoal smokiness, and the smell of the meat grilling was just wonderful.
Just looking at it grill to a golden brown made it look delicious, right? Charcoal grilling really does make it taste even better!

Wrapping a piece of meat with a scoop of rice, sliced onion, and ssamjang (wrap sauce) in a lettuce leaf — that combination alone explained why this place is always full!
The mild yet sweet meat, the slightly bitter onion, and the ssamjang mixed with rice grains — you really have to try it yourself!
Since it's always crowded, visiting outside peak hours makes for a much more comfortable meal.
They also offer a jeyuk jeongsik (spicy stir-fried pork set) for lunch, so there's a wide range of menu options!

What we liked and what could be better at Ilpum Chamsut Galbi
What I liked was that along with the meat, so many varied side dishes came included as standard, making the meal really satisfying.
Since there are always so many customers, mealtimes can get a bit busy and hectic — but that's understandable for such a popular restaurant!
If you're looking for a great BBQ restaurant in Asan Techno Valley near Dunpo, I recommend giving Ilpum Chamsut Galbi a visit!
