Today I visited Oneungi Shabu Baeksuk for a hearty meal. It was so good I want to come back with my parents next time, haha!
What I ordered at Oneungi Shabu Baeksuk in Eumbong, Asan

I was craving duck that day, so after some back and forth I went with the duck jumulleok (spicy stir-fried duck). Ordering it comes with fried rice too, and eating them together is honestly amazing.

It's a 2026 Blue Ribbon restaurant, so I can confidently say it represents Asan baeksuk (whole chicken/duck soup) and Asan dining as a whole!! Hahat

The banchan (side dishes) were so good too, I snacked on them while waiting for the duck to cook, haha

How's the duck jumulleok? Chewy texture, spicy umami sauce
The duck jumulleok at Oneungi Shabu Baeksuk stimulates the appetite from the moment you see the duck and sauce cooking together on the grill. The delicious smell wafting up made me hungry all over again lol. The duck meat wasn't too dry — it was chewy yet tender, which I loved.

Best of all, the distinct flavor of duck blended so well with the sauce that it got more appetizing the more I ate. The sauce wasn't just aggressively spicy either — it had a spicy-yet-umami balance that kept my chopsticks moving. It was obviously great with rice, but even the duck alone was delicious since the sauce soaked in so well.
It was also fun how the flavor changed a bit as it cooked longer — different at first bite versus midway through. At the start you taste the clean flavor of the duck harmonizing with the sauce, and as you keep eating, the sauce deepens and the umami really kicks in. This must be why duck jumulleok is best eaten straight off the grill.

Eating it with minari made the flavor even deeper and more delicious, and it became my favorite dish here. The duck had zero gamey smell and was so good — I really want to say this place is amazing!

The wrap-vegetable combo
Duck jumulleok is delicious on its own, but you can't skip the wrap combo! Piling duck jumulleok onto wrap vegetables and taking a big bite adds a crisp, fresh vegetable flavor that makes the whole thing taste even cleaner.

The rich, savory duck flavor combined with the freshness of the vegetables made it something I never got tired of. Personally I love eating meat dishes wrapped like this, and duck jumulleok is a perfect match for it too.

The finishing fried rice is a must
If you order duck jumulleok at Oneungi Shabu Baeksuk, I think the finishing fried rice is a must. After eating most of the meat, they fry rice in the leftover sauce, and it turns out to be a real specialty. The delicious sauce and meaty flavor from the duck jumulleok soak right into the rice, bringing the umami fully to life.
Honestly, after eating the duck jumulleok and filling up pretty well, I told myself I'd only eat a little of the fried rice. But once it actually arrived, my spoon kept going back for more.

I think the sauce tastes even better because you've just finished eating the meat. Scraping up the slightly crispy bits at the end gave a nutty, crunchy texture, so I enjoyed it deliciously right to the last bite.

Why I want to go back with my parents and family
Eating duck jumulleok at Oneungi Shabu Baeksuk this time left me thinking, 'I have to come back again.' Honestly, even at good restaurants, one visit is often enough to satisfy me — but after eating here, I found myself thinking about the next visit instead.

I especially loved the combination of the spicy, umami sauce and the chewy duck meat in the jumulleok, and finishing with the fried rice made the whole meal really satisfying. If you like duck, I think it's worth a visit at least once.

It seems like the kind of place that'll come to mind when I want a hearty meal with family, or whenever I'm craving duck. If I visit again, I think I'll order the duck jumulleok again.

If you want to eat delicious duck jumulleok and finish it off properly with fried rice, I recommend Oneungi Shabu Baeksuk! I left feeling great after a great meal, and above all, thinking 'I have to come back!' — which made it extra memorable. If you like duck jumulleok, you have to try it. And like me, I recommend finishing it all off with the fried rice! 💛
