Asan seafood jjim lunch in Mojong-dong: small size for two, Sinseong

Sinseong Agujjim in Mojong-dong, Asan — I was craving something spicy and punchy, so I decided to visit! They open at 10:30am, and it seems to have quite a reputation as a lunch spot too.

We went around 1pm and there were already lots of office workers finishing up their meals and heading out! Must be a popular spot for nearby workers.

The interior was bigger than I expected. Most tables seat four, and they've also set up a group table made by joining two tables together, seating up to eight! There were high chairs too.

Ordering the small seafood jjim for two at 38,000 won with fish roe

It was my boyfriend, me, and our baby, so three of us — we ordered the small seafood jjim for two. It came to ₩38,000! And on my boyfriend's pick, we added the fish roe seafood topping. That extra roe was ₩7,000 on top, and rice is also separate!

How spicy is level 2 out of 5?

Sinseong Agujjim has 5 spice levels, and you can pick your heat for any jjim dish! After some back and forth, we went with level 2, the "faintly spicy" option — and they told us it's a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun (and honestly, eating it, it really was on the spicy side).

Side dishes and seaweed soup at Sinseong Agujjim

After ordering, the side dishes came out fast. Cabbage salad to soothe the spice, seaweed soup, a pickled side dish, and white kimchi! All great pairings for something spicy haha.

The seaweed soup didn't have much in it, but the seaweed flavor was so good I kept going back for more! Perfect for calming things down when the heat hits. It wasn't too salty either, so it'd be fine to share with a kid too, haha.

How many people does the small seafood jjim feed?

Since it's a steamed dish, the seafood jjim at Sinseong Agujjim Asan Branch didn't come out right away — it took about 10 to 15 minutes! The second it arrived, my boyfriend and I both gasped... I almost asked if this was really the small size. The portion was seriously such a great deal!

Even at a glance you could tell there was octopus, webfoot octopus, roe, squid, shrimp, crab, and more mixed in! We only picked the small size because there wasn't anything smaller, but honestly, unless you're a big eater, the small would be plenty for three people, haha.

My boyfriend, who often hunts down monkfish stew and seafood jjim places, said this was the first time he'd seen a portion this big..! The bean sprouts were piled sky-high too, which made me — a total bean sprout lover — very happy visually.

How fresh is the seafood? Abalone and a bowl of rice

Big portion doesn't always mean good ingredients, right? Well, not here! Every piece of seafood looked super fresh, and the squid, octopus, and shrimp were all plump and juicy-looking with no exceptions~ Can you tell from the photos too...?

And there was even abalone.. We ordered fluffy steamed rice separately to go with it, and it was honestly amazing! The combo of spicy jjim and plain white rice was the best. They gave us such a generous amount of rice too that I thought I'd burst! Even my boyfriend, who usually eats a lot, said there was too much... it was the first time we ever walked out leaving octopus and squid behind, lol.

The crunchy bean sprouts were delicious, and the side dishes in between to cool the spice down were so good that we ended up finishing almost the entire massive portion..! If you love spicy food and want fresh seafood with a rich, bold sauce, Sinseong Agujjim Asan Branch is a must-visit for both seafood jjim and monkfish stew. The owner and staff were super friendly too, which made it even better! If you're looking for a lunch spot in Mojong-dong, I genuinely recommend this place~
