Cheonan sashimi restaurant for lunch with in-laws: Donghae Bada
In short
Donghae Bada Hoetjip is a sashimi and seafood restaurant near Segwang Enrichville 2 Apartment in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan. Four of us — the writer, her husband and her parents-in-law — ordered the sashimi platter + seafood stew set for 4, starting with side dishes such as pajeon (scallion pancake) and shrimp seaweed soup, then tuna and flounder on the sashimi platter, the seafood stew, and one extra serving of fried rice. For a family lunch that covers both raw fish and cooked seafood in one sitting, Donghae Bada Hoetjip works well.

Hi everyone! I'm Nayeon, still fairly new — it's been just over a year since I moved to Korea!

My in-laws were visiting Cheonan this weekend, so my husband and I went looking for somewhere good for a family lunch, and Donghae Bada Hoetjip in Dujeong-dong came up as a solid choice, so we went.
Donghae Bada Hoetjip lets you enjoy generous banchan (side dishes), sashimi platter, and seafood stew all in one meal.
The seafood stew we had at the end especially was packed with seafood, and my in-laws even loved the fried rice that came with it!

So let me introduce you to this Dujeong-dong favorite, Donghae Bada Hoetjip!
Where is Donghae Bada Hoetjip in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, and what are its hours?
Donghae Bada Hoetjip is located at 5-11 Neulpureun 6-gil, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, and it's open daily from 11:30 to 22:00. You can also use the Cheonan-sarang local card there!
It's near Segwang Enrichville 2 Apartment, so it was easy to find.

There's a large parking area right in front of the restaurant, so we parked without any worries.

Inside Donghae Bada Hoetjip and what's on the menu
The inside of Donghae Bada Hoetjip was spacious and clean, with no fishy smell at all, which was really nice. There was also a separate private room, already occupied by other guests.
The menu ranges from dodari-mak-hoe (raw flounder sashimi) to raw mideoh (croaker), grilled king prawns with salt, mideoh jeon (pan-fried croaker), whole rockfish soup, roe soup, Chilean sea bass soup, special-cut bluefin tuna, and a sashimi platter + seafood soup or seafood stew — a wide variety of raw fish and seafood dishes, so it was easy to order according to your taste.
With so many options spanning sashimi to seafood, it looked like a really good spot for a family meal!

What side dishes come with the set?
We visited with my in-laws, so we ordered the sashimi platter + seafood stew set for 4. Not long after ordering, the banchan came out — pajeon, shrimp miyeokguk (seaweed soup), beondegi (silkworm pupae), salad, aged kimchi, herring, and even bossam (boiled pork wraps)!

The shrimp miyeokguk especially was something I'd never had in Korea before, and once I tried it, the broth was so refreshing!

And the pajeon that came with it was so good too, thanks to its crispy texture 😀

What's on the sashimi platter for 4?
Then the main dish, the sashimi platter, came out right away, and I was already excited just anticipating it.
The moment I saw how it looked, I was surprised by how fresh and high-quality it was! (Doesn't it look delicious?)

It had a variety from mideoh to tuna, flounder, and dodari (another flounder-type fish) — every single piece of sashimi was fresh, and the quality was really solid.

I especially loved the tuna sashimi! I dipped it generously into the soy sauce with wasabi, and the umami combined with the rich, fatty tuna melting in my mouth felt amazing!
Look at the quality of that tuna! Can you see the glossy sheen? I really enjoyed it!

In between, I also had some flounder, which was chewy and really delicious! Watching my in-laws eat happily, I thought — good call ordering this 😊

The seafood stew and the fried rice that follows
Around the time we finished the sashimi platter, the staff brought out the seafood stew without us even having to ask.

The seafood stew comes pre-prepped by the staff, but the pieces were so big and the portion so generous that my husband cut them down a bit more himself.

The seafood stew came generously loaded with shrimp, blue crab, abalone, octopus, and more — it was one of the dishes my in-laws really loved! (It was a bit spicy for my taste.)

The seafood stew was so good that my husband said you always have to get fried rice with a good seafood stew, so we ordered one extra serving.

The fried rice is made by stir-frying some of the seafood stew sauce and ingredients together, so it still has seafood mixed in — every bite had that chewy seafood texture, and we enjoyed it all the way to the end!
Is Donghae Bada Hoetjip good for a family lunch for 4?
If you're visiting Donghae Bada Hoetjip as a group of 4 like we did, I'd recommend ordering the sashimi platter together with the seafood stew to enjoy a variety of dishes!
What I liked was that the sashimi platter was really fresh, and the seafood stew's generous portion left us all full!

If you're looking for a good sashimi restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, I'd recommend Donghae Bada Hoetjip — it was a great spot for a family gathering, with a generous sashimi platter and seafood stew to enjoy together!
