Outside Donghae Bada Hoetjip

I arrived at Donghae Bada Hoetjip, the Dujeong-dong spot everyone recommends for group dinners. Even from outside, the place looks huge.

The first thing that caught my eye when I arrived was the spacious parking lot. When you're doing a company dinner or a group gathering, people often come in multiple cars, so having plenty of parking was a real plus.
Walking inside, there was a fish tank right near the entrance, giving off that lively sashimi-restaurant energy. Getting to see the seafood up close made me look forward to how fresh everything would be.

The interior of Donghae Bada Hoetjip felt spacious overall, and the hall with its many tables had plenty of room to spare. It seemed like a great fit for family gatherings, meals with friends, and company dinners with a big group alike.
The private room

The menu and ordering from the table pad
Alongside sashimi, Donghae Bada Hoetjip also serves various seafood dishes, and there are set menus where you can enjoy sashimi and stew together. Ordering was easy since you browse and select the menu directly on the table pad.
Menu

Here's the menu at Donghae Bada Hoetjip. What stood out was the lineup of various seafood dishes alongside sashimi. It's easy for a group to each pick according to taste, and having a set menu that combines sashimi and stew made choosing that much simpler.

Ordering was done through the table pad, where I could look through and select whatever I wanted directly. Being able to browse the menu and order right at the table was convenient. After some thought, we ordered the 2-person set with assorted sashimi and seafood stew.

After a short wait, the assorted sashimi and seafood stew we ordered arrived. Because the moduhoe (assorted sashimi) lets you enjoy several kinds of fish at once, the table looked even more bountiful.
Side dishes that come with the 2-person set
The 2-person set at Donghae Bada Hoetjip came with sides like grilled fish, buchimgae (savory pancake), suyuk (boiled pork), salad, and miyeokguk (seaweed soup). The grilled fish in particular had proper smoky flavor, and the pancake and boiled pork were almost too good to be sides at a sashimi restaurant.

The grilled fish really had that proper smoky char flavor.

This is the pancake and boiled pork. Honestly, so tasty I forgot I was at a sashimi restaurant.

And there was a fresh salad too, right on cue.
Assorted sashimi: how fresh was it?
The moduhoe at Donghae Bada Hoetjip came out on one plate with several kinds of fish, so it was nice comparing texture and flavor piece by piece. You could tell just by looking that the fish was fresh and good cuts were used.

Here's the assorted sashimi from Donghae Bada Hoetjip, the go-to spot for group dinners in Dujeong-dong. Trying each piece one at a time let me enjoy the different textures and flavors, and it paired well with the basic side dishes too.

For a group dinner, it's nicer to have a dish everyone can share rather than just one option, and the assorted sashimi was satisfying in that respect.

The fish was really fresh and delicious.
You could tell with your eyes that they were using good cuts.

The seaweed soup was so good, I kept going back for more.

The pancake was properly crispy outside, tender inside.
What's in the seafood stew, and the staff prep service
Donghae Bada Hoetjip's seafood stew came with 2 pieces of abalone, plus crab, plump shrimp, and octopus — generous on ingredients. A staff member cut everything up into easy-to-eat pieces for us, which made eating it much more comfortable.

After eating sashimi for a while, you start craving something warm and soupy, and the seafood stew that came with it hit the spot perfectly. Letting it bubble away while eating gave it a clean, spicy broth flavor that really woke up the appetite. Being able to enjoy sashimi first and finish warm with seafood stew made for a pretty solid combination.

The staff member skillfully prepped the seafood stew so it was easy to eat.
There were 2 whole abalones in there too.

The shrimp were plump and really delicious.

Packed with roe, the texture was really great.
And the crab — need I say more? Pure honey flavor.
Even the octopus made the ingredients feel that much more generous.

To finish, I made myself a nice iced Americano. It was clean and refreshing as a palate cleanser.
