Sottture Dakdoritang is a chicken stew (dakdoritang) restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, known for its thick, spicy-sweet broth. Crispy flat mandu dipped straight into the broth, a chick-shaped boiled egg garnish, and a one-cone-per-person ice cream self-bar after the meal rounded out the visit. A roomy private parking lot behind the building made it an easy pick for a family meal by car.

Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch is a Korean soup restaurant in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan, Chungnam. The albaegi jeongsik set for two (35,000 won per person, 70,000 won for two) brings soy-marinated crab eaten with warm rice and spicy marinated crab whose meat you pick out, mix with sesame oil and wrap in seaweed, with disposable gloves and a dish of sesame oil set out for you. Kkotgeok worked well as a date spot, and with wide seating and plenty of parking it suits a family meal just as much.

Blue crab soup restaurant in Cheonan, small size for two: Huni Gejang

Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch is a blue crab soup and soy-marinated crab restaurant at the entrance of the food street in Yuryang-dong, Cheonan. Two people ordered the small traditional blue crab soup (jeongtong kkotgetang) for 70,000 won plus two stone-pot rice add-ons, and the four large blue crabs and generous radish made a clean, refreshing broth in a portion that was more than enough for two. For a refreshing crab soup broth, Huni Gejang is best visited as a party of three.
