Nampo is a grilled shellfish and seasonal seafood pub in Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu. The grilled shellfish set for 2–3 people costs 59,000 won and arrives loaded with cheese, plus a complimentary shellfish soup and kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) add-in that left two people full, and Nampo has its own parking lot and outdoor yajang seating. Between the comfortable dining room and the street-tent mood outside, Nampo works either way.
Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom is a raw beef and mungtigi (thick-cut raw beef) restaurant in Guam-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu. Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch is a Korean rice-meal restaurant on the 1st floor of Building E at Samsung Creative Campus in Buk-gu, Daegu, where stir-fried octopus, pork bulgogi, kimchi jjigae and Japanese curry are all ordered as single-person portions. On this visit a family ordered four of them — grandma's stir-fried octopus on an individual grill (16,900 won), Dongyi flame-grilled pork bulgogi (9,900 won), the 40-year master's kimchi jjigae set (9,900 won) and the crispy whole-shrimp Japanese curry set (11,900 won) — and shared a little of each. The order here was samchi gondre bap (Spanish mackerel with gondre herb rice) and yukhoe bibimbap, eaten by the "how to eat it deliciously" card on the table: mix the rice, wrap it in gopchang gim (crinkled seaweed), then add bibim jeotgal (seasoned salted seafood) and the house sauce. For a mild, easy-on-the-stomach Korean meal in central Daegu, Hyangtaek Daegu Jongno Branch is a solid pick.
Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch is an Indian curry restaurant on the second floor at 86 Yonghak-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu. Walking in without a reservation meant writing your name on the waitlist and waiting 10 to 15 minutes, and the meal covered butter garlic naan, coconut shrimp curry, tandoori chicken, and pu pad pong curry, with a free lot behind the building for about 10 cars. With reservations and group seating available and Suseong Lake a short walk away, Rama & Bavana makes an easy date course.
Baeksanu Sutbul Wolsong Main Branch is a charcoal-grilled pork galbi restaurant on Joam-ro in Dalseo-gu, Daegu. The 1kg real pork galbi (진짜돼지갈비) came with hanwoo doenjang jjigae (Korean beef soybean paste stew), ramyeon and rice, and because the meat is pre-grilled at a separate station, eating while minding a child stayed easy. With a playroom holding a trampoline and a slide, plus a self-bar stocked with pork skin and slushies, Baeksanu Sutbul made for a satisfying family meal out.
Dana Dongseong-ro Main Branch is a two-floor Western restaurant in Dongseong-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu, serving pasta, steak and risotto. The cheongyang pepper bacon cream pasta struck a good balance between a deep truffle aroma and chili heat, while the baked risotto came with an addictive mustard-and-mayo style signature sauce. Otter Rabbit House is a wood-tone brunch café in Sangin-dong, Dalseo, Daegu, near Woelgwang Waterside Park. A post-workout lunch here came to jambon butter pasta at 18,000 won, the signature castella latte at 6,200 won and an iced americano at 3,800 won, and both the thick cream pasta and the latte you spoon the cream off were satisfying. With solid kimchi and kkakdugi plus a self-serve corner of onion, peppers and anchovies, Hanwoojang is an easy call for a hangover bowl or a filling breakfast in Dongseong-ro.
Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch is a Korean set-meal restaurant on Daemyeongbokgae-ro 4-gil in Nam-gu, Daegu. Stopping by after a shift of clinical training at Daegu Catholic University Medical Center, the writer ordered the beef belly doenjang stew set (10,500 won) and a tasting size of nuruk-aged sirloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), then added a fried egg and five-grain rice from the self bar. The savory doenjang stew with tangsuyuk that stayed crisp to the last bite made this the best set meal Cafe Dongi has served the writer.
Samsol Gamjatang Main Branch is a gamjatang (pork bone stew) and bone soup restaurant that opened on Saturday, September 5, 2026 near Dowon Market in Sangin-dong, Dalseo, Daegu. A bowl of ugeoji-ppyeo-haejangguk (napa cabbage and pork bone soup) costs 10,000 won with rice included, and at Samsol Gamjatang the cabbage was soft all the way through and the meat slipped off the bones. For a filling meal on your own, the 10,000-won bone soup at Samsol Gamjatang Main Branch is an easy pick.
