Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch is a newly opened Korean restaurant in Dalseo, Daegu, near the Keimyung University main gate, Keimyung University Station on Subway Line 2 and Dongsan Hospital. The writer visited with her mother and ordered mackerel gondre rice (samchi gondre bap) for two at 14,000 won each plus the hanpan mushroom side at 6,000 won, and loved wrapping the gondre rice and mackerel in gopchang gim (crinkled seasoned seaweed) as well as the mushroom's crisp outside and tender inside. For a mild but deeply savory Korean spread near Keimyung University, Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch is worth the trip.

Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch is a Korean rice-meal restaurant that opened on September 1 in an alley across from the main gate of Keimyung University in Dalseo, Daegu. On an evening visit, the grilled mackerel served with the samchi gondre bap (grilled mackerel with gondre herb rice) had almost no fishy smell and few bothersome bones, and mixing the gondre rice with the house sauce and wrapping it in gopchang dolgim (crinkled roasted laver) was the best part of the meal. Daebong-dong Korean restaurant, icy pollack mulhoe: Hyangtaek Daebong

Visiting right at the 5pm reopening with her dad, the writer ordered two servings of buja (father-son) grilled short rib, two servings of spicy fire-grilled squid stir-fry, cheonggukjang stew, and drinks — the thick-cut meat turned out surprisingly tender, not chewy. With a free lettuce-wrap self-bar, both the meat and the squid stir-fry kept getting wrapped and eaten one after another.
