Hyangtaek Daebong Branch is a Korean restaurant near Exit 3 of Gyeongbuk National University Hospital Station in Jung-gu, Daegu. The writer and her husband ordered mackerel gondre-bap (herb rice bowl) and an eggplant doenjang rice bowl, then added the assorted mushroom pancake from the restaurant's receipt review event, and found the mild, unfussy flavors and the sauce paired with each dish the highlight. Nampo is a shellfish grill and raw seafood pub in the Gyodong-Dongseongno area of Jung-gu, Daegu. On a rainy day the writer sat indoors instead of at the outdoor tables, ordered raw shrimp, separated the heads herself to have them fried, and worked through the complimentary vegetable seafood kalguksu and a service seafood ramyeon. A return visit years after a memorable shellfish grill, and the raw shrimp turned out to be even better than expected.

Pre-grilled pork galbi with a toddler at a Daegu Korean BBQ restaurant: Baeksanu Sutbul

Baeksanu Sutbul Wolsong Main Branch is a pork galbi (marinated pork ribs) restaurant with a kids' playroom in Wolseong-dong, Dalseo, Daegu. Visiting with a two-year-old, the writer ordered 1kg of pre-grilled Jinjja Pork Galbi for 44,000 won, a hanwoo doenjang jjigae for 3,000 won and a bowl of rice for 3,000 won, and liked the spacious tables and the free pork skin. Baeksanu Sutbul is worth looking up if you are planning a Korean BBQ meal out with kids in Daegu.
