Samsam Goroke is a croquette shop in Sokcho Jungang Market, Gangwon, serving Sokcho-inspired fillings such as red crab and Abai sundae. I took a 6-piece, six-flavor set to the seafront and ended up finishing every last one. For a Sokcho travel snack, the ₩17,000 set is a great way to try them all.
Palpal Hoesenta Sokcho Daepo Port Market Branch is a seafood restaurant at Daepo Port Fish Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. The two-person snow crab set kept the table filling up with Dokdo shrimp, mulhoe, assorted sashimi, and crab-shell fried rice. Verdict: come hungry for a truly overflowing seafood meal.
Hoengseong Hanu Jeongyukjeom is a Korean beef butcher shop in Hoengseong, Gangwon, where shoppers can choose cuts and grades in person. On a third repeat visit, I took home Grade 1 sirloin and Grade 2 trosisal, which tasted far better than expected even at the lower grade. Verdict: a worthwhile stop for Korean beef before a Hoengseong trip, festival, or camping outing.
Doris Patisserie is a bakery near Sokcho Central Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, offering pre-order pickup for egg tarts and baked treats. After seeing the long line on the first day of the trip, I reserved original egg tarts and a financier–madeleine set the day before. Verdict: reserve ahead for a crisp, custardy egg tart to take on your Sokcho trip.
Cafe Neorae is a large bakery café near Haksapyeong Kongkkot Village and Sundubu Village in Sokcho, Gangwon. We ordered an iced Americano, nutty Neorae Tea, and tissue bread, then lingered by the window over Seoraksan views. For a proper look at Ulsanbawi, Cafe Neorae is worth visiting for the view alone.
Jin Seiromushi is a Korean restaurant in Sokcho, Gangwon, serving red snow crab and marinated shrimp with pot-cooked rice. We arrived at 10:30 for a private-room table and loved mixing the crab roe sauce, egg yolk, and rice before wrapping it in seaweed. Verdict: a wonderfully abundant meal for crab lovers.

Baegya Coffee is a large ocean-view café near Anmok Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon. On a chilly day, I had rich jujube tea, misutgaru, a chocolate baguette, and squid-ink cheese bread by the third-floor windows, then packed up the generous leftovers myself. Baegya Coffee is an easy place to enjoy warm drinks, bread, and the sea.
Yeoyejeong is a Korean meat restaurant in Yangyang, Gangwon, serving pork, beef, and lunch specials. After a Gangneung trip, I had 15,000 won galbitang and 13,000 won meat naengmyeon with charcoal-grilled meat and pot rice. Yeoyejeong is somewhere I want to return to for grilled meat.
Deo Swim is a private caravan stay surrounded by mountains and forest in Yeongwol, Gangwon. In the X3 room, we used the kitchen and grilled samgyeopsal and sweet potatoes over charcoal in our own space. Verdict: a lovely place to make staying in the accommodation part of the trip.
Hwangbuja Twigim is a Korean restaurant in Sokcho, Gangwon, serving fried snacks and sundae. I took home its freshly grilled nurungji squid sundae and loved its well-seasoned, chewy yet tender texture; reheat it in a pan or air fryer for crispness. Verdict: a must-try Sokcho market snack.
Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch is a tonkatsu restaurant in Chuncheon, Gangwon, about a 3-minute walk from the back gate of Kangwon National University. My boyfriend and I had kimchi cheese nabe and a buckwheat noodle set for lunch, and the spicy kimchi broth and icy buckwheat broth were an especially good match. Verdict: Jeongseong Katsu is a satisfying, generously portioned lunch choice.
