Gangneung ocean-view bakery café with a child: Baegya Coffee

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café directly in front of Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung. I had bread, including pizza bread, and coffee with my child while looking out at the sea; the food and clean space were satisfying, though the outdoor area is a no-kids zone and some bread was gone late in the afternoon.

Charcoal-grilled ribs in Yangyang: Yeoyejeong

Yeoyejeong is a charcoal-grilled meat restaurant in Seo-myeon, Yangyang, Gangwon. My husband and I ordered two portions of fresh ribs, two stone-pot rice servings, and doenjang-jjigae; the ribs were crisp outside and moist inside, and the scorched rice rounded out a filling meal. The spacious parking area and reserved family tables made it seem suitable for group meals too.

Yangyang sashimi takeout with individual portions: Eosiljang

Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout is a sashimi takeout shop in Sonyang-myeon, Yangyang, about a nine-minute drive from Sol Beach Yangyang. I ordered a two-person assorted sashimi platter, and the individually packed portions made it easy to eat at our accommodation; I also enjoyed the range of textures from the sashimi and seafood.

Gangneung café, strawberry-coffee sand: Gangneung Sand Main Branch

Gangneung Sand Main Branch is a café and dessert shop on Seonggogyangil 5beonan-gil in Gangneung. During a family trip, I took home strawberry and coffee sand cookies; the strawberry aroma was strong, while the coffee was pleasantly not too sweet. The spacious white-and-blue café and third-floor excavator experience zone also stood out.

Sokcho seafood takeaway: red snow crab lunchbox at Yes Susan

Yes Susan (예스수산) is a seafood takeaway counter on the first floor of Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. I took home a ₩25,000 red snow crab lunchbox and two crab-shell fried rice portions; the prepared crab was easy to eat, and the rice was enough to share as a finishing dish for four.
