Jeju indoor media art on a windy-warning day, with mom: Nohyeong

Nohyeong Supermarket is a large indoor immersive media art exhibition on Nohyeong-ro near Jeju Airport. Visited with my mom on a day when a strong wind advisory ruled out any outdoor plans, we browsed Nohyeong Grocery Store and Nohyeong Café, picked up strawberry juloreok and tangerine juice with the drink vouchers included in the admission ticket, and wandered from the black-and-white supermarket section through to the space of light. This is the perfect indoor course for Jeju — it shines even brighter on a bad-weather day.

Ocean-view black pork with mom in Seogwipo, Jeju: Jeju Healing Dwaeji

Jeju Healing Dwaeji is an ocean-view black pork barbecue restaurant on Maljil-ro in Gangjeong-dong, Seogwipo, Jeju. For the first meal of a trip with her mom, the writer ordered a han-geun (600g) of black pork for 65,000 won, healing kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), and rice, paired with four kinds of salt, melject (fermented anchovy sauce) and grilled tangerines. Wind pushed them from the grassy outdoor tables to an indoor spot by the picture windows, but both the view and the meat were fully satisfying.

Horse meat sashimi to shabu-shabu in Jungmun, Seogwipo: Marijoa

Marijoa Seogwipo Jungmun Branch is a certified horse meat course restaurant in Jungmun, Seogwipo, Jeju. The mari course moves through horse meat extract, sashimi and yukhoe, sushi, stir-fried black jireum, malkkaseu and braised ribs, roast grill, and shabu-shabu made from every part of the animal, and the meat was surprisingly tender with none of the strong smell the writer expected. Even after never getting to try black pork on this Jeju trip, this one meal left nothing to regret.

Jeju pork noodle restaurant with kids, double portion: Myeonjumak Jeju

Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch is a Jeju black pork noodle restaurant on Beonyeong-ro in Jocheon, Jeju. With two elementary-age kids and her sister, the writer ordered a double portion of gogiguksu (pork noodle soup), a regular gogiguksu, bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles), and mul mandu (boiled dumplings) after booking through Naver Reservation — even the regular portion was huge, and the black pork was tender rather than chewy. With a baby chair, a microwave for baby food, and even a kids' noodle menu, it's a solid family lunch stop.
