Korean BBQ near Starfield Goyang with spicy sundubu: Neopttakjip

While stopping by Starfield Goyang, I was looking for somewhere nearby to eat meat and ended up at Neopttakjip Samsong Branch, a Korean BBQ spot near Starfield Goyang. It's close to both Samsong Station and Starfield Goyang, so it works well as a meal before or after shopping. Here's my review from actually eating there.

By the way, I heard the name Neopttakjip comes from the idea of "spreading meat out wide (넙데데하게)" combined with a meaning of generous, warm hospitality.

It's located about 100m from Samsong Station Exit 3, so it's easy to visit by public transit. It's also about 680m from Starfield Goyang, making it a good spot to grab a meal after shopping.

The interior had generous spacing between tables, which made for a more comfortable meal. Grease splattering on your clothes while eating meat can sometimes be a hassle, but aprons were provided, so I could eat without worry.

On one side of the store, I could see autographs from various celebrities who had visited Neopttakjip Samsong Branch.

Menu and order details

Alongside main meat dishes like Sancheong black pork raw ribs and assorted grilled meats, there were menu items that pair well with meat, like clam-and-soybean paste stew, sundubu (soft tofu stew), cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), ramen, and makguksu (buckwheat noodles).

Apparently if you write a receipt review, you can choose one of Neopttak spicy ramen, one piece of pork skin, or a drink.

We got salad, seasoned garlic stems, kimchi, and seasoned scallions and chili peppers, along with fermented shrimp sauce, sesame oil, perilla powder, and salt to go with the meat.

Self-serve corner

Wrap vegetables or any extra side dishes you needed could be grabbed from the self-serve corner.

Grilling the 400g black pork raw ribs

The dish I ordered arrived. Along with the meat came rice cakes and sausage. Grilled vegetables like mushrooms and onions also came out, which we put on the grill to cook.

With the grill piled full of meat, it looked delicious just to look at.

Once the meat was mostly cooked, we moved it to one side of the grill. Doing this kept it from burning further while keeping it warm and nicely browned.

While grilling the meat, we also put kimchi on the grill. Grilling kimchi in the rendered meat fat added a nutty flavor that went well with the meat.

The rice came out in a wide bowl.

Putting a bit of meat on a spoonful of rice with various side dishes was delicious.

Wrapping the meat with grilled garlic and kimchi in the wrap vegetables also worked really well.

Spicy hangover sundubu

I love sundubu jjigae so I ordered it alongside the meat. It came out bubbling hot and looked delicious. Tasting it, the broth was spicy and flavorful. It was packed with ingredients too, and a great dish to have in between bites of meat.

Worth visiting before or after shopping at Starfield Goyang?

Being close to both Samsong Station and Starfield Goyang, I thought it was a good option to visit by public transit or before/after shopping. Grilling the Sancheong black pork raw ribs, I could pair it with a variety of sides like kimchi, grilled vegetables, and wrap vegetables.
