Haeundae Korean restaurant for lunch with a baby: Songjeongok

In short

Songjeongok is an abalone hot-pot-rice and seafood hinoki-steam Korean restaurant on Gwanggeogol-ro in Songjeong, Haeundae, Busan. Visiting at an awkward lunch hour with a baby, the writer ordered the abalone seafood hinoki set for two, which ran from an appetizer salad and seasoned sea cucumber through bossam, seasoned crab, jar doenjang stew, abalone hot pot rice and seafood hinoki steam. At ₩23,000 per person it felt unbelievably generous, and with baby chairs on hand, it's already booked as the site for the next family gathering.

A Songjeong restaurant in Busan for Korean set-course dining

Today I want to introduce a Songjeong restaurant in Busan I visited not long ago. Back when I was dating, I used to eat everything without caring much what kind of food it was, but once I had my baby and she started eating like a real little person, Korean set-course meals became the best option for us haha. So once again I went to a solid Korean restaurant in Songjeong. The name is Songjeongok — let's start with the location!

Songjeongok's location, parking and hours

  • 📍 Address: 54-1 Songjeong Gwanggeogol-ro, Haeundae-gu, Busan, South Korea, 1st & 2nd floor
  • ✔️ Hours: 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Break time: weekdays 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM / apparently no break on Saturdays and Sundays
  • 🅿️ Parking: spaces in front of the restaurant, plus lots of street parking around Songjeong!

We went at a somewhat awkward lunch hour so there were no spots left right in front, but there was plenty of street parking nearby, so we parked there and went in.

Even while eating I could tell the ingredients were all fresh and good quality. Out front the restaurant posts the date the seafood came in and the date the rice was milled, which made me feel like this was a place I could trust.

The mood and seating inside

This is the vibe at Songjeongok, a solid Korean restaurant in Songjeong, Busan. It's full of that modern-meets-traditional Korean set-meal feeling. And on top of that it felt clean and tidy! The tables have good spacing and aren't cramped into small sizes, which made me think — this is a restaurant that really considers its guests.

👧🏻🪑 They have baby chairs and high chairs too! One of the reasons this place is great to visit with a little one..!⭐️

Menu, prices, and ordering the abalone seafood hinoki set for two

  • 🏷 Menu
  • ✔️ Abalone pot rice set: ₩19,000
  • ✔️ Abalone seafood hinoki set: ₩23,000
  • ✔️ Whole octopus parboil: ₩20,000

Besides those, you could also add bossam (boiled pork wraps) and extra pot rice. We ordered the abalone seafood hinoki set for two — since we were eating anyway, I figured we'd go with the option that had the most variety :) But abalone AND seafood, all for ₩23,000? That felt way too cheap. I went in without expecting much.

Appetizer salad and seasoned sea cucumber

Once you order, the appetizers come out first. A salad loaded with shrimp, vegetables and fruit, plus a sweet-and-tangy seasoned sea cucumber. Both were exactly the kind of dishes that get your appetite going.

Bossam set with seasoned crab

The main dishes were set out faster than expected too.

First, this set with bossam (boiled pork wraps) as the star. The tofu and seasoned crab were insane,,,, plus a bunch of salted seafood side dishes that go great with it too.

Jar doenjang stew, abalone pot rice, and seafood-broth scorched rice

The doenjang (soybean paste) stew came out in a clay jar haha — my husband said this stew was totally his style. And the rice came as pot rice too, you know? Abalone pot rice, no less..

Honestly the abalone pot rice alone would've covered both healthy and filling, but then there's bossam on top..! Haha. If you scrape it all out into a bowl and pour the seafood broth over it, you get seafood-broth scorched rice too....!! That broth was a genius move honestly hahaha.

I kept saying I didn't even know where to start eating first haha. With that many side dishes, you'd think the rice wouldn't be enough, but since it's one pot per person, we never ran out haha. Ate it plain, wrapped it in lettuce,,!!

Seafood hinoki steam — the dish our baby ate the most

You thought that was it, right..? Nope~~ There was still the hinoki (Japanese cypress) steam dish left haha. Abalone, shrimp, fish cake, corn, potatoes and more — total chaos. Our baby ate a ton of the bossam and the stuff in this hinoki steam dish haha.

Why it was great to visit with a baby

I went looking for a solid Korean restaurant in Songjeong, Busan and found Songjeongok. Honestly, the ₩23,000 per person price here felt unbelievable. Running a business at these prices in today's economy...... may you thrive — may you succeed — may you become the go-to restaurant!!!

It's a place I remember even more fondly because the staff were so kind, and since our baby ate so well there, I think we'll definitely be back. I've already mentally booked it as the spot for our next family gathering :)
