Seocho pork cutlet lunch with special loin at Yangjae Katsu

In short

Yangjae Katsu is a Japanese cutlet restaurant near Yangjaecheon Stream in Seocho, Seoul. My boyfriend and I had the ₩16,000 special loin cutlet and the ₩21,000 loin cutlet and buckwheat soba set for lunch. Verdict: the chewy yet tender special loin cutlet was the standout, especially before a streamside walk.

My boyfriend asked me to have lunch with him today, so we went out to eat. I work near Yangjae Station and he works near Daechi Station, so we occasionally eat out around Yangjaecheon Stream in Yangjae-dong. 🍽️ Today, we came for pork cutlets—the ultimate soul food for men.

Yangjae Katsu location and lunchtime atmosphere

It is 650 m from Exit 8 of Yangjae Station, behind the Black Yak headquarters. Hours are daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with last orders at 20:30. There is no parking, but when a customer parked in front of the restaurant today, the owner said it was okay. Give them a call to ask!

Yangjae Katsu's sign uses only Korean initial consonants, so you might wonder, “Is this the right place?” But it is! ⭕️ It says ㅇㅈㅋㅊ, and I think the logo might be a pig snout...? 🐽 But maybe not, haha.

Since Yangjae-dong has lots of office workers, the seating is arranged around solo diners and tables for two to four people. There may be a wait at lunchtime—that is how popular it is! My lunch break is from 1 to 2 p.m., so it was a little quieter then. I imagine 12 to 12:30 p.m. is the busiest time.

Yangjae Katsu menu and review event

Why I liked the special loin katsu more

Special loin katsu: ₩16,000 The special loin katsu is a premium loin cut with gabrisal, a richly marbled pork neck-adjacent cut attached. It is sold in limited quantities each day, so I definitely recommend trying it at least once! The regular loin katsu has tender loin aged for 48 hours along with fat, but its texture was a little different from the special one. I definitely thought the special loin katsu was tastier. 👍

The bright pink you can see inside the meat does not mean it is undercooked; they say it is a pinking effect caused by myoglobin in fresh meat. It is proof that the meat is fresh, so you can enjoy it without worry. 😊

Loin katsu + buckwheat soba: ₩21,000 There are lots of set meals, and we ordered the loin katsu with buckwheat soba. Just because it was a set, I thought the soba might be a small portion, but it was not. I almost burst from being so full @

How to enjoy donkatsu

  • Dip it in pink salt
  • Top it with wasabi
  • Have it with both pink salt and wasabi
  • Dip it in katsu sauce
  • Add lemon juice to any of the methods above

⭐️Recommendation⭐️ Personally, I could taste the cutlet itself best with just pink salt or with wasabi.

The meat was not tough at all—so tender and delicious. Maybe because the special loin katsu includes gabrisal, it had a slightly chewy texture too?

At Yangjae Katsu, they will keep refilling your rice, soup, and side dishes if you need more! I always find this salad delicious, so I think I always have at least one more serving, haha.

The weather is still warm at lunchtime, so I had cold buckwheat noodles, but once it gets a little cooler, I should try the udon. 🍜 Office workers who buy lunch every day can probably start to feel the limits of their meal options, so I hope you visit Yangjae Katsu and enjoy different dishes—donkatsu one day, buckwheat soba another day, and so on.
