Gangnam Station sashimi restaurant with crispy shrimp tempura: Damiseon

It’s gotten so cool lately that I can feel the chilly air when I head out in the morning! Since I was going to Gangnam Station today, I wondered if there was a good-value sashimi place with great quality—and that’s how I visited Damiseon Gangnam Station Branch!

It’s about a one-minute walk from Exit 5 of Gangnam Station! Such amazing station access.

The interior had such a calm Japanese restaurant feel! It was spacious and comfortable for eating, and so clean too—very, very satisfying! With such a good location, I think it would be great for a company dinner as well ( ദ്ദി ˙ᗜ˙ )

What comes with the two-person basic table set?

There were really so many menu options. Everything looked delicious, so we decided on the two-person basic table set!

First, these side dishes came out! There was a salad with yuzu ponzu, white kimchi, and corn salad. I especially loved the corn salad. It was generously dressed with mayo and nicely sweet—so yummy 🤤 (Not that it’s a secret that I’ve been craving sugar lately because the semester started, haha.)

Next came steamed egg and clam soup. The steamed egg was classic restaurant-style steamed egg, and the lightly spicy clam soup was delicious! The clams seemed to be white clams, and they were so plump and chewy. They went so well with the punchy broth too 🫶

Sea bream, halibut, and blanched seafood

The long-awaited assorted sashimi arrived!! I was surprised by how generous the portion was 🫢 There were three kinds of fish. Two were sea bream and large halibut, just as listed on the menu, and my boyfriend said he thought the other one was rockfish.

The plate at the upper right had soy-marinated shrimp; directly below the sashimi was blanched octopus; and from the lower left, there was sea squirt, blanched abalone, and blanched whelk. Such a satisfying spread!

Can you see that gorgeous sheen..? ✨ It was so fresh, and the quality was seriously sooo good.

It was so delicious when I tried it! I was surprised that I could get this kind of quality in Seoul..! None of the sashimi had any fishy smell, and the octopus, abalone, and whelk were all so plump and chewy too.

Wrapping up with pollock roe stew and shrimp tempura

While we were busily devouring the sashimi, grilled saury came out! I’d only ever had saury from a can before, and it had such a light, clean flavor (◜⤙◝) I thought, surely this must be the end, but then pollock roe stew arrived. It had a different kind of spicy kick from the earlier clam soup! Rather than just fish bones like a spicy fish stew, it had plenty of meat and was packed with roe too 🫶

Lastly, shrimp tempura and temaki (hand-rolled sushi) came out! The star here was the shrimp tempura. Unlike other shrimp tempura, it was incredibly crispy and the batter itself was tasty! The shrimp inside was bouncy too, so how could it not be delicious? 🍤
