Bone-broth naengmyeon and 8 servings of pork belly in Paju: Tannae

In short

Tannae Paju Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Gaeram-maeul, Unjeong, Paju, Gyeonggi. Three people ate 6 servings of pre-grilled pork belly, 2 servings of marinated king-cut pork, crab soybean paste stew, steamed egg and naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) made in-house with beef bone broth, and nothing tasted over-seasoned — the naengmyeon went well beyond a simple after-meal course. For a family dinner in Gaeram-maeul, Tannae Paju Main Branch delivered on both the meat and the sides.

Family dinner spread at Tannae Paju Main Branch

A family dinner review of Tannae Paju Main Branch, a Gaeram-maeul restaurant in Unjeong, Paju.

Pre-grilled pork belly with side dishes on the table

I tried everything from the pre-grilled pork belly to the marinated pork king gui, the crab miso stew, and the bone-broth naengmyeon.

It was a Saturday afternoon. You know those days when, for no particular reason, you suddenly crave pork belly like crazy?

Table spread at the BBQ restaurant visited on a Saturday craving for pork belly

That was exactly the day, haha. So I was trying to figure out where to take my family, and someone recommended Tannae Paju Main Branch. Bottom line up front: if you ask me where to get good pork belly in Unjeong these days, I'll probably start with this place.

Meat and side dishes at Tannae Paju Main Branch

It wasn't just a place with good meat. Between the side dishes, the stew, the marinated pork king gui, and the naengmyeon at the end, I found myself thinking, 'ah, this kitchen has a real sense of seasoning.'

If you're looking for a family dinner spot in Gaeram-maeul, this was a pretty solid choice.

Where is Tannae Paju Main Branch in Gaeram-maeul?

Tannae Paju Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant at 73 Garam-ro, Paju, Gyeonggi, previously known as Heukdwaeji Hyeongjedeul before the name change.

Exterior of Tannae Paju Main Branch on Garam-ro

It's become one of the hot restaurants in Gaeram-maeul, Unjeong, Paju, specializing in pork belly, pork neck, and marinated pork king gui, haha. I visited on a Saturday and figured there'd be some crowd, but it was busier than I expected.

Restaurant interior busy with weekend evening customers

Right after we got seated, people started lining up to wait. If we'd been a bit later, we might have been waiting too!! Perfect timing, haha. If you're visiting for a weekend family dinner or an evening get-together in Gaeram-maeul, it's probably easier to go a little before mealtime.

What is the restaurant like inside?

My first impression of Tannae Paju Main Branch was that the place is clean. Food matters at a BBQ restaurant, but when I go with family, the overall condition of the place matters to me quite a bit too.

Neatly arranged BBQ restaurant table

The moment I walked in, my first thought was: clean. It had a comfortable atmosphere for a family meal, without the usual chaotic feel of a BBQ place.

So it seemed like a good fit not just for family gatherings but also for dinner with friends or a work get-together.

Pre-grilled pork belly means less work at the table

The first thing we ordered at Tannae Paju Main Branch was pork belly, starting with 3 servings. What I liked here was that instead of handing you raw pork belly or pork neck, they pre-grill it first before serving.

You know how at some BBQ places, one person ends up stuck grilling the whole time and barely gets to eat? Here, since it comes partly cooked already, you just finish it off at the table, which is a lot more convenient.

Pre-grilled pork belly served with geotjeori

Above all, the meat quality was good. It wasn't just shiny on the outside — the first bite made it clear the meat itself was fresh, and the fresh geotjeori (quick kimchi) served alongside paired really well with the pork belly.

In the end, we finished 3 servings of pork belly... and ordered 3 more, haha. I think that says it all.

The real strength at Tannae: balanced seasoning

The main reason I liked Tannae isn't actually the pork belly itself. There was something I kept noticing as I ate.

It's not over-seasoned. But it's not bland either. That might sound like nothing, but I think it's actually one of the hardest things to get right in food.

Side dishes with balanced, not-too-strong seasoning

If food is made too salty or too sweet, the first bite or two leaves a strong impression, but you get tired of it quickly. Tannae hit that middle ground well. The side dishes, the stew, and later the marinated pork king gui and naengmyeon all had a similar feel.

Pork belly finishing on the grill

A flavor that's not overdone but not plain either — that was this restaurant's biggest strength.

The free stew is crab soybean paste stew — order rice with it

When you order meat at Tannae Paju Main Branch, you get a complimentary stew — either crab miso stew or pork kimchi stew. We went with the crab miso stew. Honestly, since I was planning to eat a lot of meat that day, I wasn't going to order rice.

Complimentary crab miso stew

But after one spoonful of the stew broth... 'Can we get a bowl of rice, please.' Came out immediately, haha. There was no way around ordering rice for this. It's not a style that pushes salty miso flavor — the taste from the crab and the miso blend naturally. Good for spooning up between bites of meat, and good for mixing with rice too.

Order a steamed egg alongside it and you've got a pretty good menu lineup for a family dinner with kids.

Why we added marinated king-cut pork after eyeing the next table

Human psychology is a funny thing. We were slowly getting full, and then the table next to us was eating something that looked way too good.

Additional order of marinated pork king gui

Turned out it was marinated pork king gui. There was no way we could let that slide. Added 2 servings. And honestly, we would have really regretted skipping this.

Marinated pork king gui on the grill

Marinated meat can easily go too sweet or too salty and get tiring after a few bites, but Tannae's marinated pork king gui had that same seasoning balance I mentioned earlier. The sweetness doesn't lead the flavor, and the saltiness doesn't hit hard after.

A tender, well-grilled piece of marinated pork king gui

The meat was also really tender. If kids and adults are eating together, ordering both pork belly and marinated pork king gui seems like a great idea.

The surprise: naengmyeon in house-made beef bone broth

You thought that was it, didn't you?

Naengmyeon ordered for dessert

What I really wanted to talk about in this Gaeram-maeul restaurant review is actually the naengmyeon (cold noodles). Usually when you order naengmyeon at a BBQ place, you're expecting something like, 'okay, we ate meat, let's just cleanse the palate a bit.'

Mul-naengmyeon made with bone broth

But one bite in and I went, huh? Then another bite and I was thinking, why is this restaurant's naengmyeon this good?

Try both mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon

The mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) was good, and the bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) was good too.

The mul-naengmyeon broth in particular was really impressive. Not too sour, no sweetness sticking out — it cleared the palate after all that meat while the flavor of the broth itself stayed clear and distinct. That 'balanced seasoning' I kept mentioning hits its peak here in the naengmyeon.

Noodles lifted from the mul-naengmyeon broth

It was so good that I asked the owner on my way out, 'Do you make the naengmyeon broth yourselves?' They told me it's made with homemade bone broth. Ah... that explains why it tasted different. Personally, this was well beyond the usual level of afterthought naengmyeon you get at a BBQ place. It was good enough to pass as a dedicated naengmyeon restaurant.

Two bowls of bibim-naengmyeon and mul-naengmyeon

If you go here, forget ramyeon for dessert — I'd start with the naengmyeon. Can't decide between mul-naengmyeon or bibim-naengmyeon? If there are several of you, order one of each, haha.

How much did three people actually eat at Tannae?

Tallying it up, here's what the three of us ate that day:

  • Pork belly, 3 servings
  • Pork belly, 3 more servings
  • Marinated pork king gui, 2 servings
  • Crab miso stew
  • Rice
  • Steamed egg
  • Naengmyeon

....8 servings of meat between the three of us, haha.

Table after three people ate 8 servings of meat

Writing this out is making me a little embarrassed now. But that day, we genuinely kept going. We went from pork belly to marinated meat and finished with naengmyeon, and the flow of it all felt right.

The one letdown at Tannae Paju Main Branch

Flavor-wise, nothing really comes to mind, but if I have to pick one thing, it's this: the meat couldn't keep up with the pace I was eating, haha.

It was peak weekend hours so the place was busy, and since the meat comes pre-grilled, if you're the type who's like 'next round, quick!' like me, you might have to wait a bit.

That said, it's understandable given there's a pre-grilling process involved. If you're planning to eat a lot like we did, the tip is to put in the next order while there's still some meat left on the table. This matters — order more before you finish, not after, haha.

Why Tannae works for a family dinner in Gaeram-maeul

When picking a family restaurant, being good at just one menu item can sometimes fall short.

Family dinner menu spread together on the table

Adults might like the pork belly while the kids go for the marinated meat, someone needs rice and stew, and someone else needs to finish with naengmyeon. Tannae had that whole combination covered. Pork belly for the pork belly fans, marinated pork king gui for those who prefer something softer, crab miso stew for the rice eaters, and naengmyeon to finish it all off.

Combination of pork belly, marinated pork king gui, and stew

So it's an easy place to recommend to anyone looking for a family dinner spot in Gaeram-maeul. Given the table setup and atmosphere, it also seems like it'd work well for larger get-togethers or group dinners.

It was genuinely busy when I visited on the weekend too. If you're planning a family dinner, I'd recommend going a bit outside peak hours.

Would I go back to Tannae Paju Main Branch?

Yes. I'm going back. No question about it.

Table at Tannae Paju Main Branch after finishing the meal

At a BBQ restaurant, good meat is a given, but the sides have to hold up too for it to stick in your mind, and Tannae was exactly that kind of place. And paying with my own money and walking out, instead of saying 'thanks for the meal, it was really good' to the owner, I basically walked out saying 'thank you so much,' haha.

It's been a while since I paid for a meal and walked out feeling that grateful.

My verdict on this Paju Unjeong pork belly restaurant

I haven't eaten at every BBQ restaurant in Gaeram-maeul, so I can't objectively say this is number one.

But it's definitely one of the top pork belly restaurants I've eaten at in Unjeong recently. Good meat quality, easy to eat since it's pre-grilled, side dishes and stew that aren't overdone, tender marinated pork king gui, and above all, the naengmyeon was legit.

If you're looking for a family dinner spot in Gaeram-maeul, or if you're craving pork belly in Unjeong, I think I'll be going back to Tannae Paju Main Branch. And the naengmyeon... please try it. I really mean it, haha.
