In short

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is an instant tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cake) restaurant about 180m from Exit 6 of Sinyongsan Station in Yongsan, Seoul, and it has been running since it opened as a street cart in 2004. On this couple date, the instant tteokbokki for two cost 22,000 won and came with rice cake, fish cake, egg and noodles to pick from, the leftover sauce was turned into fried rice, and a Naver review event added a free papaya slushie. My boyfriend and I were trying to figure out what to eat in Yongsan, and we ended up at Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch!

Hyeonseonine apparently started as a street food cart back in 2004. They serve everything from instant tteokbokki to fried snacks, sundae (blood sausage), and mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll), so it's a great spot for a simple meal in Yongsan.

What made it even better was that my boyfriend kept saying it was delicious the whole time we were eating haha.

He especially loved the fried snacks and said they were really good, and he liked the savory tteokbokki broth so much he said he wanted to come back again.

If you're a couple who loves tteokbokki like us, I'd recommend this as a date spot in Yongsan!

Inside Hyeonseonine: seating and the self-serve bar

The inside of Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch has a roof-like ceiling, an open kitchen, and a self-serve bar on one side. The tables were spacious enough for two people to comfortably cook and eat instant tteokbokki together.

Walking in, the roof-shaped ceiling gave it a cozy feel haha. The kitchen was open so we could watch our food being made, and old photos of the restaurant were hanging on the walls, giving off a beloved-for-years kind of vibe.

What does Hyeonseonine's instant tteokbokki broth taste like?

We ordered the instant tteokbokki at Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch. It came with rice cake, fish cake, egg, and noodles, so it was fun to pick and choose what to eat.

Above all, the broth was really delicious!

Instead of just being aggressively spicy, it had a savory flavor that kept you coming back for more. As the rice cake and fish cake absorbed the sauce while simmering, the broth got richer and richer, which I loved.

My boyfriend kept saying the broth was so savory and delicious, and he ate so much he said he wanted to come back again haha.

Adding crispy fried batter flakes on top of the tteokbokki added extra texture, too.

Fried rice in the leftover tteokbokki sauce

Once you're mostly done with the instant tteokbokki, you have to finish it off with fried rice. Adding rice, seaweed flakes, and corn to the leftover sauce and frying it up gave a completely different kind of charm from the tteokbokki.

With the sauce evenly coating every grain of rice, plus the nutty seaweed flakes and crunchy corn, it was the kind of flavor you keep eating even when you're full! If you come for the instant tteokbokki, make sure to try the fried rice too :)

Free papaya slushie from the Naver review event

When we visited Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch, they were also running a Naver review event.

If you wrote a photo review on Naver Place and saved the location as 'My Place' on Naver Map, you could choose between a cool slushie or a size-up on your tteokbokki.

We got the blue slushie, and it was perfect for cooling down after the spicy tteokbokki. The event details may change depending on when you visit, so double-check at the restaurant!

Is Hyeonseonine worth it for a Yongsan date?

We went to Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch for a casual meal with my boyfriend, and ended up both really satisfied.

What stood out most was the savory, rich instant tteokbokki broth and the crispy fried snacks. My boyfriend loved the fried snacks and said they were really good, and the tteokbokki broth matched his taste so well that he said he wanted to come back again haha.

It's close to Sinyongsan Station, so it's a great stop when you're craving Korean street food while dating in Yongsan, and you can enjoy instant tteokbokki, fried snacks, and fried rice all in one meal for a filling dinner. If you're looking for a good tteokbokki restaurant in Yongsan or instant tteokbokki near Sinyongsan Station, I recommend Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch :)
