Jeonju Hanok Village gangjeong shop with a free skewer: Mannyeon

This is Jeonju Hanok Village, where my friend and I wandered around eating street food before heading out for drinks. You can't talk about street food without Jeonju Hanok Village, right? I've loved snacking since I was a kid, so I'm into all kinds of street food haha. This time I got takeout dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken glazed in sweet-savory sauce) and realized street food quality here is seriously good — here's my review of Mannyeon Dakgangjeong!

Where is Mannyeon Dakgangjeong in Jeonju Hanok Village, and what are the hours?

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is at 27 Taejo-ro, 1st floor, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk, right on the main street of Hanok Village. Hours are 11:00 to 21:00. It's really like one or two minutes from Gyeonggijeon Shrine and Jeondong Cathedral!!

The free sausage and rice cake skewer, the English menu, and shrimp gangjeong half-and-half

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong gives out a chicken doll or a tteok-kkochi (rice cake and sausage skewer) for a review event haha. Kids traveling with their family would love that!! I got the dakgangjeong to go, got the free tteok-kkochi with it, ate the skewer while walking around, and then ate the dakgangjeong back at the guesthouse — perfect combo.

There's also an English menu for foreign travelers. I loved that kind of thoughtfulness, haha. It's not just chicken gangjeong either — they have shrimp gangjeong too>< You can get a half-and-half set of chicken and shrimp gangjeong! I ordered the shrimp+chicken set, half mild and half spicy!

Some people were buying jjondeugi (chewy taffy-like Korean snack) too. Seeing them carry it out, I thought... oh, that looks good... it seemed like the definition of street food, easy to eat while walking — I'll try it next time I get the chance.

The sauces were labeled and displayed, but when I watched them wok-fry it, they mixed syrup with fruit sauce right there. Looked like they adjust the ratio fresh each time!

Mild and spicy glaze wok-fried the moment you order

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong fries it up the second you order. They pour the syrup and main seasoning straight into the wok and fry it fast and hard. The owner's wrist snap while tossing it was no joke haha.

The mild flavor is syrup plus fresh fruit sauce; the spicy version adds garlic and chili to that base — paah paah! The spicy isn't artificially hot, it's a chili-forward spicy that Koreans tend to love!

The redder one is the spicy version! They fry it so it doesn't get soggy, and the shine on it is so pretty. They whip it up fast, so it'd be great for grabbing takeout in a hurry while you're touring Jeonju!

Did the gangjeong stay crisp after it cooled? Eating it out and back at the room

They said it's good even cold, and it really was. When it was still warm and I pulled a piece out at the bar, it was super crunchy. Then I brought the rest home and ate it there, and it was still crisp, sweet-salty and chewy in the best way — the texture was amazing!!

The shrimp were huge too, and the chicken pieces were plump with the batter thickness just right. Even my pup wanted in on this dakgangjeong — it was so good><

Why Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is worth eating in Jeonju Hanok Village

Dakgangjeong is something you see everywhere, but Mannyeon Dakgangjeong in Hanok Village was tastier than the usual stuff I've had. The shrimp combo worked really well too — crisp and sweet, a totally different vibe from the soggy dakgangjeong you sometimes get haha.

Since it's right on the main street of Hanok Village, it's easy to grab a box to take home or get a medium size to eat while you walk. If you're looking for something to eat in Jeonju Hanok Village, I recommend Mannyeon Dakgangjeong!
