Yongsan Station coffee shop: peach yogurt cake at HYBE Playground

Looking for Yongsan Station café desserts, I ended up at HYBE Playground, a place with a lot of space and a wide variety of desserts. From the café to the lounge, terrace and rooftop, each floor has a different mood, and you can even watch desserts being made on site, which made it fun just to explore.

Where is HYBE Playground, and how do you get there?

HYBE Playground is located at 9-17 Hangang-daero 15-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with a 2nd-floor café leading up to a 3rd-floor lounge and terrace, and a 4th-floor rooftop. Their official Instagram is @hiveplayground.

Outdoor areas can be restricted depending on temperature or weather, so if you're visiting specifically for the terrace or rooftop, it's worth checking the day's notices as well.

The orange building you spot straight away in Yongsan

Walking into the alley, the first thing that catches your eye is the bold orange exterior. The color is so distinct that finding HYBE Playground was easy even from a distance. From the entrance, it felt less like a typical café and more like stepping into a multi-use space that takes over the entire building.

Four floors of café space in one building

Each floor at HYBE Playground has its own character. Instead of staying in one spot like a typical café, the mood changes as you go up, which made exploring floor by floor genuinely fun. Overall the interior felt clean and upscale, so just looking around the space itself was enjoyable.

2nd floor: the barista counter and dessert kitchen

Heading up to the 2nd floor, there's a counter where baristas make drinks and where you order. Inside, you can also see a space where desserts are made by hand. Instead of just displaying finished cakes, being able to watch the making process felt like something anyone hunting for Yongsan Station café desserts would find interesting.

Seating on the 2nd floor was quite varied too. Sofas, regular tables, and bar tables were all available, so there were plenty of options whether visiting alone or with a group.

3rd floor: bean bags and a more relaxed mood

Going up to the 3rd floor, the atmosphere shifts again from the 2nd floor. There are spots good for a group to gather and talk, plus bean bag seating for a more laid-back stay.

Rather than sitting upright in a standard café chair, you can relax and chat comfortably, which gave the floor a free, easygoing vibe. The space is fairly large, so it seemed to work well even when visiting with several people.

The 3rd-floor terrace and the 4th-floor rooftop

The 3rd floor also has an outdoor terrace in addition to the indoor space.

It continues further up to a rooftop, which seems like it would feel completely different in the evening. The notice I saw mentioned that outdoor space use might be limited on very hot summer days. So visiting on a cooler day or around sunset seems like the way to enjoy the terrace and rooftop more comfortably.

Looking at it floor by floor, the layout runs from the 2nd-floor café to the 3rd-floor lounge and terrace up to the 4th-floor rooftop. Venue rental is also available, so it's worth keeping in mind for gatherings or events.

The dessert showcase and the posters on the wall

After exploring the space, I moved on to actually picking a dessert. Various cakes and seasonal desserts were introduced on posters along the wall, and as someone looking for Yongsan Station café desserts, my eyes kept drifting to different options even before checking the menu.

The showcase had all sorts of cakes lined up, from fruit-based ones to chocolate and matcha varieties. Among them, there was exactly one slice of peach yogurt cake left when I visited, so I grabbed it right away.

What we ordered at HYBE Playground

That day I had the peach yogurt cake, a HIVE Americano, and a café latte. With so many cake types, there were plenty of options when wanting to browse and choose among the Yongsan Station café desserts.

Peach yogurt cake packed with firm peach

Among all the yogurt-based desserts I've tried, this was the first one I'd say wasn't heavy at all. The yogurt's clean tang paired really well with the peach, and it wasn't too sweet, so it was easy to eat without feeling weighed down. It went especially well with coffee.

The peach was the crisp, firm 'ttakbok' variety. The pieces were fairly large, and there was plenty of peach not just on top but mixed into the cake itself. Fruit desserts sometimes turn out to have less fruit than expected, but this peach yogurt cake had generous peach all the way through, so you kept tasting the fruit with every bite. Out of all the Yongsan Station café desserts I had that day, the peach yogurt was personally the most memorable.

HIVE Americano and a smooth, nutty café latte

I ordered two coffees together: the HIVE Americano and a café latte. The café latte had a nutty, smooth flavor that paired really well with the peach yogurt cake. The HIVE Americano, true to its name, had a sweet aroma reminiscent of honey, making it a bit smoother to drink than a regular Americano. One was nutty and smooth, the other subtly sweet, which made it nice to alternate between the two while eating dessert.

Is HYBE Playground worth a visit near Yongsan Station?

HYBE Playground had a different mood on every floor, which made exploring the space genuinely enjoyable. The peach yogurt cake I had that day in particular wasn't heavy and had plenty of peach, making it a great match with coffee.
