When the season arrives with big swings in temperature or leaves me feeling run-down, I naturally start thinking of nourishing food that will really fill me up. Among all those restorative dishes, duck is one of my family’s favorite choices: it is rich in protein and easy for everyone, young and old, to enjoy. This weekend, while looking for somewhere the whole family could enjoy both good flavor and a wholesome meal, we visited Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch (가나안덕 계양점), a duck specialty restaurant in Gyeyang, Incheon that has already earned plenty of word-of-mouth praise.

The first thing that caught my eye upon arrival was the large, well-equipped parking area. Parking can be stressful before a visit even begins for family groups or company dinners arriving by car, but the lot here is roomy enough that even newer drivers can park comfortably before heading inside.

The exterior was neatly maintained as a standalone building too, making a very good first impression.
A spacious, pleasant dining room and friendly service
Once inside, we were welcomed by a broad, open dining room with an interior that felt both classic and modern. The tables were generously spaced, so paths did not overlap with other diners and we could eat while chatting in comfort and privacy.

Even though this is a place where you grill meat at the table, the ventilation system worked exceptionally well, keeping the interior pleasant and free of smoke or grease.

From the moment we entered, the staff guided us to our table with kind, bright smiles. They also patiently explained the menu and how everything worked, so even first-time visitors could settle in easily and begin their meal in an even better mood. Before we had even eaten, I already felt the trip to find duck near Bakchon Station had been worthwhile.
The menu and free duck mung bean porridge
After sitting down, I took a careful look through the menu. True to a duck specialty restaurant, it offered a wide range of mains, from fresh grilled duck to smoked duck, marinated duck, mud-baked duck, and baeksuk (slow-simmered poultry soup), along with plenty of worthwhile side dishes.

- Fresh charcoal-grilled duck: whole (700g) ₩56,000 / half (350g) ₩29,000
- Smoked charcoal-grilled duck: whole (700g) ₩59,000 / half (350g) ₩30,000
- Spicy marinated charcoal-grilled duck: whole (700g) ₩59,000 / half (350g) ₩30,000
- Marinated pork ribs: ₩19,000
- Duck mud bake: ₩69,000

At the bottom of the menu was a note saying, “Duck mung bean porridge is provided free of charge; please order it from a staff member.” Being able to enjoy as much warm, nutty mung bean porridge as we wanted as a dessert-like finish after the meal felt like one of Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch’s biggest charms.
Fresh duck grilled over real charcoal
We ordered a whole serving of fresh charcoal-grilled duck, the signature menu item that lets you taste duck’s naturally mild yet deep flavor best. Not long after ordering, the charcoal arrived, followed shortly by a generously piled plate of fresh duck in a vivid rosy-red color.

The visible grain of the meat and its glossy sheen made the quality of the duck immediately clear—fitting for a restaurant known for duck.

As we placed the fresh duck onto the hot real charcoal, the familiar sizzle began and a savory meaty aroma gently filled the air.

Duck can be fatty and turn heavy if you are not careful, but grilling it over real charcoal let the excess fat drip away while a gentle charcoal fragrance soaked right into the meat. I picked up a nicely browned piece and tried it plain first. The outside was crisp, while the inside held plenty of juices, giving it a wonderfully tender yet chewy texture.

There was none of the gamey smell that duck can sometimes have, and with every bite, its distinct nutty, mild umami filled my mouth.
A tidy, hygienic self-service corner
When you are eating, basic sides such as lettuce, garlic, and pickled onions tend to run out quickly. In the center of the restaurant was a neat self-service corner that diners could use comfortably.

Above it, a clear “Self-Service Corner” sign sat over neatly sanitized plates, containers of assorted sauces, and wasabi. The stainless-steel side-dish counter below was generously stocked with lettuce, perilla leaves, pickled radish wraps, kimchi, chili peppers, garlic, and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste).

Everything was hygienically maintained to keep dust and other debris out, and I was impressed to see staff regularly tidying up and replenishing the sides.

Being able to take as many fresh vegetables as we wanted and make wraps without feeling self-conscious made the meal even more satisfying. Anyone looking for duck near Bakchon Station who prefers a clean self-service bar should be especially pleased with this.

Jieun Farm honey sweet potatoes after the meal
On our way out after eating, boxes of sweet potatoes displayed to one side of the restaurant caught my eye. They were “Hwangto Benjamin sweet potatoes (Jieun Farm honey sweet potatoes),” delivered directly from Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do. They were selling for ₩45,000 per 10kg box, and when I peeked inside, the potatoes looked evenly sized, smooth, fresh, and free of spoilage.

At Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch, there is also the fun of putting foil-wrapped sweet potatoes onto the charcoal to roast when the staff add charcoal. It seemed that many diners who had tasted the sweet, fluffy honey sweet potatoes bought a box to take home. I thought they would be just right as a light snack at home after the meal or as a gift, too.
Free duck mung bean porridge to finish
When we were nearly done with the meat, we asked a staff member for the complimentary duck mung bean porridge. Served in a large ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), the porridge had been simmered for a long time, with the nutty flavor of mung beans and the deep taste of duck broth thoroughly melded into it.

It went down smoothly while warmly and gently settling the stomach, making it the best clean finish after a charcoal-grilled meal. No matter how full you are, I strongly recommend finishing at least one whole bowl of this mung bean porridge.
Why I would return for a family meal
Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch gave us a complete meal with nothing missing: the natural flavor of fresh, high-quality duck, a hygienic self-service corner, a comfortable restaurant environment, and even complimentary mung bean porridge.
It is a great choice not only for a weekend family meal, but also for a meal with elders or a company dinner with colleagues. If you are looking for a proper, nourishing duck specialty restaurant in Gyeyang, Incheon or near Bakchon Station, I hope you will visit Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch at least once. A plate of mild duck and a bowl of warm mung bean porridge will leave you full of healthy, happy energy.
