Grilled duck plus spicy pork ribs at Ganaandeok, a Gyeyang restaurant

In short

Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch is a charcoal-grilled duck restaurant in Gyeyang, Incheon, near Bakchon Station on Jangje-ro. The writer ordered a whole grilled fresh duck plus seasoned pork ribs to help her son recover from the flu, ate with her 10-month-old in a baby chair, and left happy — the parking entrance is confusing, but the charcoal-roasted sweet potato and free mung bean porridge made it worth a return visit.

Charcoal-grilled duck spread at Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch

The temperature swings between day and night must be doing a number on everyone's immune system 😷 The flu was going around my son's daycare, and my older kid ended up catching it too... 🥹 His fever finally broke, but he still looked wiped out, so we went out for some duck to help him get his energy back.

Duck has a high ratio of unsaturated fat and a softer protein texture, so it's actually great to eat with kids!

Which parking entrance to use

Wide parking lot in front of Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch's building

The parking lot at Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch is huge, so you really don't need to worry about finding a spot! One tip though — if you type Ganaandeok into T map, it'll guide you to the entrance on the Jangje-ro side. Coming from the Gyeyang Station direction, I ended up taking Seobugansun-ro, turning onto Dongyang-ro, and looping all the way back around to Jangje-ro. Not fun (?).

But!! There's actually another parking entrance right as you turn off Seobugansun-ro!! It's kind of hidden, like a little side gap, so slow down and keep an eye out haha.

Seating inside and group dining

Interior seating and tables at Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch

There are quite a lot of seats, and the tables can be pushed together, so group get-togethers should be totally doable!

I wondered why there were small side tables around — turns out they're for waiting! Which makes sense, because the meat tastes like it would definitely have a 100% weekend wait 🫢 If you ask me, Ganaandeok is THE duck restaurant near Bakchon Station in Incheon 👍👍

Side dishes prepared at the self-serve corner
Self-serve corner with disposable aprons and sweet potato bags

They lay out all the side dishes with the first table setting, and if you need more, there's a self-serve corner to grab extras. (I don't think peppers and perilla leaves came with the first setting.)

There's also plastic bags for wrapping up sweet potatoes to take home, and (I think) disposable aprons.

With a 10-month-old

They have baby chairs available, so it was easy eating comfortably with our 10-month-old!

Order kiosk attached to the table

Order by kiosk, first order must be a whole portion

Ordering is done through the kiosk attached at each table. Your first order has to be a whole portion — you can mix half-and-half between the fresh duck charcoal grill, smoked duck charcoal grill, and duck jumulleok charcoal grill, or just order one type as a whole portion.

The main menu is duck, but there's also a pork rib option!

Seat with lid open for storing bags

You can store your bags by lifting the seat lid open.

The spread: whole fresh duck grill + seasoned pork ribs

Full table setting with fresh duck charcoal grill and side dishes

Ta-da~ everything's laid out. What I ordered was:

  • Fresh duck charcoal grill (whole) ₩56,000
  • Seasoned pork ribs ₩19,000

That's it!

Ganaandeok tucks foil-wrapped honey sweet potatoes in between the charcoal!!! This sweet potato... it was seriously so good.

Side dishes served alongside the duck
Cabbage and sauce on a small plate
Fresh chive salad side dish
Lettuce and wrap vegetables plate
Assorted side dishes on the table
Sauces and side dishes served with the meat

Side dishes that go well with the meat — for me, the cabbage and sauce on the small plate paired best with everything!

Fresh duck grilling on the heated grate

When you put the duck on the heated grate, it smokes like crazy!!! Flip it fast so it doesn't burn.

Duck on cabbage topped with chive salad

The best combination

Cabbage + duck + fresh chive salad — this was my favorite way to eat it 👍

Charcoal-grilled duck wrapped in lettuce

Wrapped in lettuce too~~~

Duck dipped in wasabi

Dipped in the wasabi from the self-serve corner too! Mixing it up like this kept it from getting boring~! And most of all, the duck was genuinely so tender, not chewy at all, which made it easy to eat. My 32-month-old won't eat anything chewy, but he kept asking for more of this duck!

Free mung bean porridge ordered from the kiosk

This mung bean porridge!!!! It's genuinely delicious. You can order it for free on the kiosk, so make sure to get it!!

Seasoned pork ribs rolled around the bone

Eating pork ribs and duck together

Now~~~ time for the seasoned pork ribs! They come with the rib meat rolled around the bone, and once you unroll it, it's pretty thick and long!

Pork ribs and duck together...💛 I'd never had them this way before, and it was genuinely exciting? Pork wrapped around duck (?)

Duck grilled together with seasoned pork ribs

They grill the last bit of duck so it soaks up the seasoned pork rib flavor~

Finishing with charcoal-roasted honey sweet potato

After finishing the meal, it's the long-awaited sweet potato time!!!!

Honey sweet potato roasted soft in the charcoal

This color can't possibly taste bad, right?! And the texture is super soft and squishy!! Seriously insane sweetness!!! I bet a lot of people take a bite and end up buying some to go 👍

Sitting in the corner, my little one getting duck and sweet potato handed to him and getting happier by the minute... lol. Ganaandeok, where even a 10-month-old can eat together!! I think I'll be coming back often 💓

Overall review

  • The duck had no gamey smell and tasted fresh, and it was tender enough to be great for eating with kids
  • The charcoal is good quality, so the meat grills up really tasty!
  • The side dishes are simple, so they support the duck as sides rather than competing with it
  • The honey sweet potato roasted in the charcoal is genuinely delicious!!
  • The owner was so kind and the food was delicious, so a return visit is a must!
