Bongdam Korean BBQ with pork belly and abalone seafood set: Hwadamga

In short

Hwadamga is a Korean BBQ and grilled fish restaurant on Nangnaegi-gil in Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. Visiting Hwadamga for dinner, the writer ordered the Korean pork belly seafood set and grilled the pork belly together with abalone, squid, octopus and shrimp on the tabletop grill, while high-partition tables, a private room and a self-serve bar made the meal easy with family. A good choice in Bongdam when you want meat and seafood in one hearty spread.

Hwadamga in Bongdam: dinner visit and parking

Hwadamga is a meat and Korean restaurant at 58 Nangnaegi-gil, Bonghdam-eup, Hyohaeng-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, and I drove over one evening. The exterior looked clean and tidy right away, and there was parking space too, which made it easy to visit by car.

After a whole week of being busy and feeling drained, I figured it was finally time to eat something good and properly recharge. Looking for a place where I could enjoy meat and seafood together, I ended up at Hwadamga in Bongdam.

Why Hwadamga's partitioned tables and rooms suit a family dinner

Going inside, Hwadamga was bigger than I'd expected, and what I liked most was that every seating area felt private!

Interior of Hwadamga's high-partition table seating

Even the regular table seats had high partitions, so you barely made eye contact with the next table, which felt comfortable. If you wanted an even more independent space, there was also a room you could use. The room was kept just as tidy, so it seemed like a good option for a family outing or gathering where you want a bit more quiet.

What is on the self-serve bar at Hwadamga?

On one side of Hwadamga there was a separate self-serve bar, stocked with several extra items beyond the basic banchan (side dishes) that come with the meal. From wrap vegetables to a good variety of side dishes, there were enough options that I could easily grab whatever I needed mid-meal — and since some items weren't part of the standard table setting, I'd definitely recommend stopping by the self-serve bar at least once!

Ordering the Korean pork belly seafood set

After sitting down, I could easily check the menu and order using the tablet set up at the table. What we ordered that day was the Korean pork belly seafood set!

It was exactly the kind of combo we wanted, since we were craving both meat and seafood — no hesitation at all once we saw the menu. Not long after ordering, the basic side dishes started arriving one by one, a nice variety that paired well with grilled meat.

And then, finally, the main dish arrived! One big plate piled high with thick-cut Korean pork belly and all kinds of seafood. Pork belly, shrimp, shellfish, squid and more were all arranged together on a single plate — it looked seriously generous just to look at, and being able to enjoy meat and seafood at once was especially appealing.

How the pork belly, abalone and octopus tasted off the grill

We grilled everything one by one on the tabletop grill as it turned golden brown — pork belly first, then abalone, squid, octopus and shrimp.

Cut into bite-sized pieces before grilling, the pork belly turned crisp and golden on the outside while staying moist and savory inside. The juices that seeped out gave it a rich flavor with every bite, and wrapped in lettuce it kept me reaching for more without ever feeling greasy.

Grilled on the pan, the abalone had a chewy yet springy texture, with a subtle sweetness and savory depth that came through more the longer you chewed — a real treat. Eaten alongside the pork belly, it paired well with the meat's rich flavor.

Like in the last photo, wrapping grilled pork belly with vegetables and seafood inside a perilla leaf added a fragrant note that made it genuinely delicious. Dipping it lightly in sauce added even more depth of flavor — it was fun stuffing each wrap full.

When you want meat and seafood together in Bongdam

After being worn out all week, this meal of proper, delicious food actually put me in a good mood. Thanks to the generous spread, I left with a full stomach and felt like some of my built-up fatigue had eased too.

I was satisfied being able to enjoy Hwadamga's Korean pork belly and a variety of seafood all in one generous meal, and I also liked being able to eat at ease in such a private setting. It's a good place to visit whenever you want a hearty meat-and-seafood meal in Bongdam! Another satisfying, good-mood meal wrapped up.
