Cheonan Korean restaurant for gopchang noodle soup and tteokgalbi: Yukdaejang
In short
Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch is a Korean restaurant in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan, serving hot soups, bossam platters, and hot pots. Before a Costco trip, we had Gopchang Wangchang Saengyuk Kalmyeon, mandu-guk, and tteokgalbi, and the intestine-filled broth was the standout. Verdict: a filling choice when you want gopchang noodle soup with tteokgalbi.

I met up with a friend to go to Costco, but we were so hungry that we decided to eat first. As we were choosing what to have, we wanted to try saengyuk kalmyeon with gopchang (beef intestines), so we headed straight to Baekseok-dong.
Yukdaejang in Baekseok-dong
Even the name has such a warm, familiar feel to it. It looked like a nice spot for a simple bowl of gukbap (rice in soup), but also good for a group to enjoy a hot pot or a bossam platter together. Next time, I absolutely have to order the bossam platter.
When we arrived, the exterior looked neat yet comfortable. The big Yukdaejang sign, alongside “bossam platter · hot pot,” made it easy to see at a glance what kind of food they specialize in. There were outdoor tables in front too, so it seemed like a lovely place for a casual meal on a nice day. More than anything, it had that warm, homey feeling its name suggests, making it easy to walk in for a meal without any fuss.

The parking lot was spacious too, so it was nice that parking felt completely hassle-free.

Taking our time over the varied menu
Yukdaejang, a haejangguk (hangover soup) spot in Cheonan, was neatly kept inside as well.
Yukdaejang in Cheonan had such a huge variety of dishes. We spent ages looking over the menu. What should we get?!!

Gopchang Wangchang Saengyuk Kalmyeon and a full spread
Once we sat down and ordered, the food began arriving one dish at a time. With the table full of food, it already looked incredibly satisfying. From kimchi and side dishes to soup and a generous meat dish, it was a real feast. The soup in particular looked wonderfully piping hot.

Gopchang Wangchang Saengyuk Kalmyeon (knife-cut noodles with plenty of beef intestines) may become one of my all-time favorite foods. It was so delicious, haha. The hot broth was packed with gopchang, making it rich and delicious. I totally get why Cheonan haejangguk gets the love it does!! Can they really give you this much gopchang? The rice cakes in the mandu-guk (dumpling soup) were delightfully chewy too.

Mild mandu-guk and nutty tteokgalbi
The mandu-guk had a milky-looking, mild broth, topped with shredded seaweed and scallions, and it looked appetizing too. When I spooned up the broth, it felt gentle and comforting rather than intensely seasoned. It went especially well with the meat, and with its large dumplings, I thought it would be a good order for when I visit with my son someday. Since my son likes mandu-guk too, I lifted up a dumpling for him—and it was generously filled, making it look even more delicious.

The tteokgalbi (Korean grilled beef patty) was nutty and delicious too.

And then there was the tteokgalbi in the middle of the table. It arrived in big, thick pieces on a black plate, and it looked delicious just sitting there.

With its nicely browned exterior and juicy-looking meat, it was perfect alongside the soup. What a wonderful pairing the tteokgalbi and Gopchang Wangchang Saengyuk Kalmyeon were! Tteokgalbi is also something children enjoy, so I thought it would be a good dish to order for a family meal. It was nice that this Cheonan haejangguk restaurant had so many different options. We had a spoonful of warm broth followed by a bite of tteokgalbi and—oh! This is heaven! Since the pieces were so large, a group could cut them up and share them easily. Oh my... even the kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) at Yukdaejang was delicious.

I can see why it is known for haejangguk in Cheonan. The gopchang kalmyeon would be perfect as a hangover soup too. Look at this—the gopchang is so long and looks absolutely delicious.
