Three generations, kids' double jajangmyeon at Bueokgan Chinese

I want to introduce a Chinese restaurant where over the weekend our little Kkulbam and my 3-year-old nephew ate through two whole bowls of jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and fried rice.

It had been a while since my mom and my younger sibling's family all got together, so I was pretty careful about picking a restaurant — and this time I really think I chose well.

The kids ate happily, the adults got to eat at ease, and the atmosphere of the place itself was great, so this one stuck with me as a memorable spot for a family meal.

A different vibe from your typical Chinese restaurant

Honestly, at first I just thought of it as a casual family jajangmyeon run. But my thinking changed a bit the moment we walked in.

When you think of a typical Chinese restaurant, you picture a red sign or a bustling atmosphere — but this place was clearly different. The lighting was soft and the space felt both upscale and warm.

The European-style furniture and distinctive lighting scattered throughout the space really stood out — it felt less like a Chinese restaurant and more like an atmospheric restaurant in general.

The place was also fairly spacious, so the tables weren't cramped, and there were separate private rooms too, which seemed well suited for family gatherings, dates, or group meals.

Visiting that day with my mom and the kids in tow, that spaciousness felt even more welcome.

So if you're looking for a good restaurant in Marine City and want the atmosphere to match the food, I think this one would suit you well.

This time, we actually went with the basics

What we ordered that day was pretty simple: tangsuyuk (medium), ganjajang, jajangmyeon, jjamppong, and fried rice. Rather than anything fancy, it was mostly the standard menu you'd find at any Chinese restaurant. But honestly, I think these basic dishes are exactly what shows you a place's real skill.

Is the jajangmyeon good? Does the ganjajang have that proper smoky wok-hei flavor? Is the jjamppong broth tasty? Is the fried rice fluffy? In the end, these basic dishes are the ones you keep thinking about anyway.

Ganjajang with a subtle smoky flavor

We started with the ganjajang (thick black bean sauce noodles). The sauce itself was rich, and I liked how there was a subtle smoky flavor when you ate it. Rather than just tasting sweet and salty, it had more depth from that wok-fried aroma.

Once you mix the noodles and sauce together well, the jajang sauce coated the noodles nicely — personally I liked how it stayed true to the basics while still having that smoky flavor alive in it.

Spicy jjamppong that kept us reaching back for more

Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) was the dish my sibling especially loved that day.

From the very first sip you could clearly taste the spiciness, but it wasn't just heat — there was smokiness added in too, giving the broth a deep flavor. A warm spoonful of broth followed by the noodles really hit the spot.

I could especially imagine craving a bowl of this on a rainy day.

At first I thought they'd only eat a little, but they kept saying it was delicious and kept going. The fried rice had fluffy grains and a subtle smoky flavor. It wasn't greasy or soggy — the rice grains stayed nicely separate, and it tasted great even mixed with jajang sauce.

The jajangmyeon was appropriately sweet without being overwhelming for kids, and tasty on top of that. In the end, they ate two whole bowls.

When you're eating out with kids, whether the food suits their taste matters more than you'd expect — and that day the kids ate so well that the adults got to eat comfortably too. My mom and my sibling's family, who'd come from far away, all said they were satisfied after the meal, which made me quietly proud for having picked the place.

Tangsuyuk: crispy outside, tender inside, and a sauce worth talking about

We also ordered the medium size tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). The batter was crispy and the meat inside was tender — truly crispy outside, juicy inside.

And the sauce was delicious. It came with the sauce already poured over it, and yet the crispiness of the fried coating still held up somewhat, and the sauce itself was so good that you didn't even need to dip it in anything else.

I usually like dipping tangsuyuk sauce separately, but this time eating it as-served was even better.

Why this worked well for a family meal

What struck me this time was that Bueokgan Chinese isn't just a Chinese restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The ganjajang and jjamppong both had that smoky flavor, the fried rice was fluffy, and the tangsuyuk was crispy with a sauce that matched well.

But above all, the fact that the kids ate two whole bowls of jajangmyeon and fried rice was, to me, the most convincing review of all. In a family meal spanning from parents to little kids, menu choices can sometimes feel limited, but here you could order everything from rice dishes like jajangmyeon and fried rice to tangsuyuk, so everyone could eat according to their own taste. So I think this would also work well for anyone looking for a place near Dongbaekseom or Marine City to eat with family.

A Haeundae restaurant that gets the atmosphere right too

When you're looking for a place to eat in Haeundae, sometimes the food is fine but the space is lacking, or the atmosphere is great but it's hard to bring kids. Visiting Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch in person, it felt like it struck a good balance right in the middle.

The atmosphere was pleasant for the adults, there was plenty on the menu for the kids to eat, and the spacious layout let the family eat comfortably together. So it seemed like a good fit for meals with parents, family outings, or larger group gatherings.

Overall thoughts

What stays with me most from this family meal is simply how good the basic dishes were.

The ganjajang and jjamppong both had a smoky flavor, and the jjamppong was deliciously spicy.

The fried rice was fluffy with a subtle smokiness, and the jajangmyeon was sweet enough and tasty enough that the kids ate two whole bowls of it.

The tangsuyuk was crispy outside, tender inside, and satisfying with its sauce.

But most of all, what I liked best was that my mom and my sibling's family, who'd come from far away, all left satisfied. This is the kind of place where the thought naturally comes: next time we're all together, let's come back here.
