There was outdoor seating (yajang) right in front of Chodaebak Naengsam, and it seems to be known as one of the outdoor-dining spots near Pyeongnae-Hopyeong Station! The weather was perfect for it too.

Inside Chodaebak Naengsam: spacious and well ventilated

Round tables inside Chodaebak Naengsam

Here's the inside of Chodaebak Naengsam. There were two kinds of tables, round and square, and both the tables and the interior were spacious and comfortable. Despite being a BBQ place, it didn't smell much and the ventilation was good, so it felt clean. It would be great for group gatherings or company dinners around Pyeongnae-Hopyeong! In fact, there was a family gathering happening while we were there. The owner was friendly too, so we could eat comfortably.

There was even a wine fridge, which surprised me! They also had various air fresheners like Fabreze on hand, so we could eat without the meat smell lingering.

Chodaebak Naengsam menu and what we ordered

Menu board and prices at Chodaebak Naengsam

The menu had frozen flower pork belly 170g for ₩14,900, frozen pork belly, flower pork collar, gochujang pork belly, and beef brisket each 170g for ₩12,900, and beehive tripe 150g for ₩9,000. The Chodaebak assorted set was ₩66,000, SET2 (3-4 people) was ₩49,000, and SET1 (2-3 people) was ₩37,000.

We ordered SET1 (2-3 people) with 2 servings of frozen pork belly, 1 serving of flower pork collar, steamed egg, minari, and king oyster mushroom, plus added spicy Hangang ramen for ₩5,000 and a bowl of rice for ₩1,000. The water was barley tea, which was nutty and tasty. It came in a Del Monte glass bottle, which brought back all kinds of nostalgia.

Banchan and the self-service bar

They set out banchan (side dishes) by default: shiitake wasabi mayo sauce, bracken fern namul, soy egg, grilled cheese, pink sausage, kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, cabbage-scallion salad, lettuce, peppers, and garlic — lots of variety and every single one was delicious.

Any banchan you were short on could be topped up yourself from the self-bar.

Once the grill had heated up a bit, we started with the grilled cheese and pink sausage that came out first! The cheese was chewy and full of flavor — really good.

Steamed egg in SET1 and the spicy Hangang ramen

The steamed egg that came with the set menu was soft and delicious.

I'd been craving ramen lately, and this one even had bean sprouts and egg in it! The noodles were cooked just right, firm and chewy. It was spicy too, which cut through the richness that can build up from eating just pork belly, so it made everything taste even better.

Grilling the frozen pork belly and flower pork collar

Then out came 2 servings of pork belly, 1 serving of flower pork collar, potatoes, king oyster mushrooms, and minari. We laid it all on the heated grill and started cooking.

We tried the flower pork collar first — I don't usually go for pork collar much, but I could tell right away the quality was excellent and it was delicious! It also cooked quickly, which was nice.

We finished off the pork belly too, and the portion was quite generous!

Finishing with seasoned honeycomb pork skin

Seasoned beehive tripe with dipping powders

You can't skip the tripe though, can you?! We finished off the meal with beehive tripe.

The tripe came pre-scored for easy cutting, and it was served with curry powder and bean powder on the side. They even gave us a press so the tripe wouldn't spatter while grilling, making it easy to cook.

The tripe was full of little pops of fat and juicy flavor — we finished it off full and happy! Great meat quality, great value, and delicious food overall at Chodaebak Naengsam, a solid BBQ spot near Pyeongnae-Hopyeong Station.
