Paju Unjeong pork belly restaurant with a free stew: Tannae Paju

Today I'm sharing my review of Tannae Paju Main Branch, where I went for meat near Unjeong in Paju! I'd been craving meat lately and looking around for where to go, and I got a good opportunity to visit this place. (I got an eight-constitution test done and was told it's better not to eat pork, so this was my first pork in almost a month haha.)

Inside Tannae Paju Main Branch: atmosphere and seating

Walking in, the interior was bigger than I expected, with plenty of tables. Overall it felt clean and comfortable, nice for a relaxed meal, and there was good space between tables too — good!

When we visited, there were quite a lot of customers, from families to bigger groups! They actually have group tables and high chairs available, so it looked like a solid option for a family dinner or a work dinner near Unjeong.

Charcoal pre-grilling: staff grill the pork for you

Tannae Paju Main Branch has a separate pre-grilling station set up right in the middle of the restaurant. Staff pre-grill your ordered meat over charcoal first, then bring it to your table — so you don't have to do the grilling from scratch yourself, which was super convenient. The staff pre-grill everything really quickly 😎

What's on the menu at Tannae Paju Main Branch

The menu is simple but has everything you'd need, so it didn't take long to decide. We could get both pork belly and marinated pork ribs, and since we happened to want both, it was easy to choose — yay~

Side dishes and dipping sauces

After ordering the meat, the basic side dishes came out. As shown in the photo, there was a nice variety to go with the meat — ssamjang (dipping sauce), garlic, pickles, green onion kimchi, corn salad, cabbage and more. There was also a sweet-and-tangy lettuce salad that was great for cutting through the meat's richness!!

There were also several dipping sauces to enjoy with the meat, so it was fun mixing and matching depending on your taste haha.

How was the pork belly and its charcoal smokiness?

While we were checking out the side dishes, the pork belly we'd been waiting for arrived! The moment it hit the grill it started sizzling away — meat really is best cooked over charcoal, right?

Since the charcoal is right below the grill plate, the meat picks up a subtle smoky flavor 🔥 If you're looking for pork belly near Unjeong and care about the actual flavor of the meat itself, this place is worth a visit.

The free stew: kimchi or crab doenjang

The stew comes free! You can choose between kimchi stew or crab doenjang stew — we went with the doenjang. Taking a warm sip between bites of meat cleaned up the palate and made me want to dive right back into the meat haha.

Adding one serving of marinated pork ribs

We were only planning on pork belly, but since other tables were eating a lot of the marinated pork too, we ordered one serving ^^ They pre-grill the marinated pork too. The seasoning wasn't too strong, which I actually liked. It has its own charm apart from the pork belly, so personally I'd recommend the combo of pork belly first, marinated pork ribs to finish.

Finishing with mul-naengmyeon cold noodles

I wrote a Naver review and ordered mul-naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles in broth). You can't skip cold noodles after pork ribs~~~ We were eating so fast I didn't even get a photo of the noodles.

Is Tannae Paju Main Branch good for a family or work dinner?

You can clearly tell we scarfed it all down ^.^ haha. We left absolutely stuffed. Korean BBQ places are great for friends or couples, but they're also where a lot of people end up for family dinners or work dinners.

Tannae Paju Main Branch has crowd-pleasing meat options like pork belly and marinated pork ribs that most people will enjoy, so it seems like a good pick for a bigger group too‼️ If you're looking for a family dinner spot in Garam-maeul or a work dinner place near Unjeong, this one's worth keeping in mind.
