Assorted mulhoe for two near Jakjeon Station, Gyeyang: Muirang

In short

Muirang Mulhoerang Hyoseong Direct Branch is a mulhoe (raw fish in cold broth) and seafood restaurant a 10-minute walk from Jakjeon Station in Gyeyang, Incheon. The writer ordered assorted mulhoe for two and a flying fish roe rice ball, watched staff mix the halibut, flounder, abalone and sea cucumber tableside, tried the corn noodles, and finished with the clam soup with dumplings that comes free for two or more orders. The sauce was tangy-sweet without any heavy aftertaste — the best mulhoe the writer says they've ever had.

How far from Jakjeon Station? Location and parking

This place sits near Seongji Elementary School. It's a 10-minute walk from Exit 5 of Jakjeon Station on Incheon Line 1, so it's pretty accessible. There's proper basement parking in the building too, so it's a great option if you're driving.

The greenery out front already puts you in a good mood before you even step inside — that's the exterior of this top-tier mulhoe spot in Incheon. The menu board catches your eye with everything from in-season salt-grilled king prawns to lunch sets. And apparently dogs are welcome if you bring a carrier or stroller — great news for dog owners!

The dining room vibe

The moment you walk in, a genuinely spacious hall greets you — spotless and packed with tables. Even during an awkward mid-afternoon visit, customers kept streaming in, which already smells like good food.

What we ordered: assorted mulhoe for two + flying fish roe rice ball

The menu at this Incheon mulhoe favorite is headlined by the assorted mulhoe, but there's also plenty of other stuff worth trying — kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl), grilled prawns, braised baby squid, and pajeon (green onion pancake). After some deliberation, Bongsam went with assorted mulhoe for two plus the flying fish roe rice ball.

Basic side dishes and seaweed soup

Right after ordering, we got the banchan (side dishes): cabbage salad, kimchi, braised nuts, pickled peppers, and a seaweed soup. Everything tasted homemade, and the seaweed soup in particular wasn't too salty — good enough to sip straight. Families with kids could just order a bowl of rice and mix it into the soup.

The flying fish roe rice ball, exactly as pictured — and generous

The rice ball came out first, and wow, it was exactly like the photo. I'd assumed the online pictures made it look bigger than reality, but no — it really is that generous. There's even soybean powder mixed in, giving it a nutty, salty kick. Already a winner before the main dish arrived.

Assorted mulhoe for two: what's in it, and how much?

Then came today's star..! I'd seen the photos in other posts beforehand, but I still couldn't gauge the actual size — the bowl is huge. Halibut, flounder, abalone, and sea cucumber were piled in without a single gap, which was deeply satisfying.

This top-tier Incheon mulhoe spot had real class. A genuinely friendly staff member asked if she should mix it for us, then did it herself, deftly, tossing in the corn noodles that come standard, soaking them right in.

Whoa — even from a glance you could tell there was a lot of fish, and it was thick-cut and truly fresh. Clearly not scraps thrown together, but fresh fish carefully sliced. I usually don't love this dish, but one bite and my eyes lit right up.

The corn noodles and the sauce

Using corn noodles instead of thin wheat noodles was a genius move — they stayed chewy the whole time, never turning soggy no matter how long they sat in the broth. And the sauce itself was tangy-sweet with no heavy aftertaste at all — honestly the best I've ever had.

The free clam soup that comes with orders for two or more

Now for this place's real cheat code: the clam soup. Order mulhoe for two or more and this soup comes free — add a noodle portion and it basically turns into clam kalguksu. The broth has a spicy kick and the combo is amazing.

Sometimes strong-smelling seafood like sea squirt throws off the whole flavor balance, but this top-tier Incheon mulhoe spot avoided that entirely — everything was harmonious. The tasty sauce, crunchy vegetables, and chewy seafood and fish coming together was truly fantastic.

How I ate the rice ball

Time to put the rice ball to use — too lazy to shape it round, I just used a spoon. Dip it right into the sauce and you won't need to order a separate bowl of rice. That sweet-salty-tangy-spicy combo is a flavor you have to try to understand.

Clam soup with dumplings inside

Wait — there were dumplings in that free clam soup too? The portion was so big I gave up on adding noodles, but finding dumplings in there made up for that disappointment. I really did find something I'd call perfect..

The verdict after eating here

So after visiting this Incheon favorite, Bongsam's personal takeaway is that this is a top-tier mulhoe place that will get you hooked on that sweet-and-sour flavor. Pleasant atmosphere, kind staff, and excellent food — nothing missing here. Go check it out in style!
