Beef intestine BBQ in Wolseong-dong, Daegu: Miso Gopchang Wolseong

In short

Miso Gopchang Wolseong is a hanwoo (Korean beef) gopchang (grilled beef intestine) restaurant on the Sinwolseong food street in Wolseong-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu. The writer ordered the miso-modum platter for two and ate the pre-grilled daechang, makchang, gopchang and heart in the order the owner explained while cutting each piece, then finished with a complimentary clam and live abalone soup and cheese kimchi fried rice. Between the retro interior and the attentive service, Miso Gopchang Wolseong ranks as the writer's best gopchang restaurant yet.

Where is Miso Gopchang Wolseong and when is it open?

Miso Gopchang Wolseong is a hanwoo (Korean beef) gopchang (grilled beef intestines) restaurant located at 187 Sangwon-ro, 1st floor, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, South Korea, in the Sinwolseong food alley of Wolseong-dong. Hours are Mon-Thu 17:00-24:00, Fri-Sat 17:00-01:00 (next day), and Sun 17:00-23:00, with no dedicated parking lot. The visit was on September 9, 2026, a weekday evening.

My partner and I have been going to Wolseong-dong a lot lately, so I searched for a solid weekday-dinner spot in the area and got curious about Miso Gopchang's signature milk daechang, so we decided to check it out.

A retro interior like a rich 1970s-80s Korean home

The first impression walking into Miso Gopchang was seeing a huge, gorgeous chandelier — it felt so lavish right away. After being seated and taking a closer look around, it wasn't just flashy — it had this retro-classic vibe like stepping into a rich family's house or a fancy Korean set-meal restaurant from the 70s or 80s. Dark wood tones, vintage floral wallpaper, teal tiles, and framed family mottoes that used to hang in every home — all these little props gave off an old-fashioned feeling, like time travel.

Even the water comes out cold in a Del Monte bottle with barley tea, something you rarely see these days, and the cola comes in glass bottles too. The ashtrays — also a rarity now — held hair ties and dental floss, which showed thoughtful attention to guests. Even the small details carried through the retro concept perfectly.

Order gopchang by the cut or go for the miso-modum platter?

Miso Gopchang Wolseong lets you order daechang, gopchang, makchang, and heart separately by cut. But wouldn't it be better to start with the combo platter so you can try everything at once? So naturally, we ordered the miso-modum for two.

Dipping sauces and side dishes at Miso Gopchang Wolseong

At a barbecue restaurant, the meat itself has to be good, but having plenty of sauces and side dishes to go with it means you don't get tired of the flavors and can keep eating happily until the end. Miso Gopchang had a great range of sauces and banchan (side dishes) to pair with the meat, which made me even more excited for the grilled platter to come.

The free clam and live abalone soup that comes with the platter for two

While we were waiting for the miso-modum, suddenly the owner put a soup with clams and live abalone on the grill top. What is this?! We'd only ordered the platter for two, and here they were giving us a soup packed with plump clams and abalone. The clear, spicy broth and the tender abalone and clams made me crave a drink, but I held off, saving it for next time.

Miso-modum for two: pre-grilled cuts and the order to eat them in

After the appetizer of abalone and clams, the miso-modum finally showed up! It looked amazing, no way this wasn't going to taste good. I wish I could share the sizzling sound with everyone, but I can't.

The hanwoo daechang, makchang, gopchang, and heart came pre-grilled and golden brown, piled high with vegetables and rice cake sticks. My mouth was watering instantly.

At Miso Gopchang, they don't just pre-grill the meat — the owner comes to the table and cuts everything for you personally, explaining kindly how to eat it. You start with the heart, which gets tough if overcooked, while the daechang is fine cooked a bit longer.

How hanwoo heart and the signature milk daechang taste

The hanwoo heart was honestly the softest yet chewiest I've ever had in my life. I realized heart can taste this good depending on how it's cooked. And the signature daechang was nutty enough to earn the nickname "milk daechang" — topped with a generous dab of wasabi, the sharp bite of the wasabi neutralized the richness of the daechang fat, leaving nothing but pure nuttiness with no greasiness at all. There was also cheese-topped potato as a side on the platter, and that was a treat too.

Ending the meal with cheese kimchi fried rice

Even after polishing off the grilled platter to the last bite and feeling like our stomachs might burst, there was one ending we couldn't resist: fried rice! Kimchi fried rice swirled with beaten egg, plus extra cheese — how could anyone say no? We scraped the pan clean right to the very end.

Miso Gopchang, I hereby name you my all-time favorite hanwoo gopchang restaurant.

The prize-draw board at the table and free ice cream on the way out

During dinner, they brought over this little prize-draw board and we joined in, but unfortunately, we came in last... They gave us 500 won in cash so we could play jjanggyeombo (a coin arcade game), and I blew through it for the first time in decades.

And on our way out, we happily enjoyed a yogurt-flavored ice cream. Located in the Sinwolseong food alley of Wolseong-dong, Dalseo-gu, Miso Gopchang was satisfying from start to finish — atmosphere, taste, and service all delivered, instantly becoming my all-time favorite Wolseong-dong barbecue restaurant. Whenever I'm craving hanwoo gopchang or daechang, I know I'll be back. If you're in Wolseong-dong and want hanwoo gopchang, daechang, or any kind of grilled meat, I highly recommend giving this place a visit!
