What kind of bakery is Danppang Bakery?
Danppang Bakery is a garlic bread specialty shop tucked into an alley inside Gugyeong Market at 36 Dojeon4-gil, Danyang-eup, Chungbuk. It's open daily from 10:30 to 21:00, though it closes early once the ingredients run out.
We went to Danyang with family over the weekend! If you're visiting Danyang, you can't skip Gugyeong Market, haha. We stopped by on a weekend to eat good food and browse the market properly. There was one spot where crowds were unusually thick — Danppang Bakery 🙌🏻 We lined up ourselves, and here's our honest review :)

Where to park at Danyang Gugyeong Market
The most important thing first — parking! Right across from the market there's a public parking lot.

If there's no space up top, there's also a parking area lower down.

A little further up past the market, there's another spot — the Danyang Gugyeong Market public parking lot — and quite a few parking spaces near the deck path too.

Once we parked, we started properly exploring Gugyeong Market!

How long is the weekend line at Danppang Bakery?
The alley where Danppang Bakery sits had way more people than the rest of the market. As we walked around, we noticed one alley packed with people — and that was exactly the alley with Danppang Bakery! Can you see it?? haha 👀

The line was pretty long even by market standards, so I thought, this must really be a famous place! I quickly got in line before it got any longer 🤭

Danppang Bakery says it's the original creator in Korea of black garlic cream cheese garlic bread, grinding black garlic in-house to mix into the cream cheese. It's a well-known Danyang bakery that's been featured on several TV shows. Since it lets you taste Danyang's signature specialty, garlic, together with bread, it seemed to be a popular choice for Danyang travel souvenirs too.
Danppang Bakery menu and prices

Check the menu board for the full lineup! You can pick your favorite flavor as a single item, or buy a gift set with several kinds included. The gift set in particular lets you try multiple flavors at once and comes at a slightly better price than buying items individually — a good pick if you want to sample a range of flavors. For someone as indecisive as me, the set is perfect 👏🏻
What's inside the 14,000-won 4-flavor set
- 4-flavor combo set (₩14,000)
- Cream cheese garlic bread gift set, 4 pieces
- Cream cheese + black garlic cream cheese + sweet potato + baguette garlic bread

It comes with four flavors: cream cheese, black garlic cream cheese, sweet potato, and baguette garlic bread.

We took the bread outside the market and found a nice spot to sit ☺️ It felt a bit like a picnic, which was nice, haha. So let's start the taste test, one by one!

Cream cheese garlic bread
A familiar flavor is a scary flavor! You get a properly rich, savory cream cheese taste. Best of all, when you cut the bread open, it's really packed with cream cheese. Actually, you can tell just by looking at it that there's a lot in there 🥹 With so much soft cream cheese loaded in, this is a flavor that's hard for anyone to dislike.

Black garlic cream cheese garlic bread
Next, the one I was most curious about — black garlic cream cheese! Just hearing the name, you might think, black garlic... cream cheese...? lol. But once I actually tried it, they went really well together. On top of the cream cheese base, there's a subtle black garlic aroma layered in. The garlic scent doesn't hit you too strongly — it's mild, so it wasn't overwhelming, and the combination of cream cheese and black garlic worked surprisingly well! Really distinctive ✨

Sweet potato garlic bread
Sweet potato can't really go wrong, haha. It's filled with sweet potato custard cream, and topped with bits of sweet potato as well. Sweet and soft, it was perfect as a dessert. If you personally like sweet potato, I think you'll love this one for sure!

Baguette garlic bread
Last up, the baguette garlic bread! Another familiar flavor that's scary good, lol. But unlike what you'd expect from a typical baguette, it wasn't chewy or hard, which I liked. It's a baguette but surprisingly moist and soft 😌 And the garlic chips scattered throughout were the highlight! Biting into those crispy garlic chips added such a nice texture — it's quietly really tasty, haha.
Danppang Bakery has so many flavors that it was really hard to pick just one ㅠㅠ If you're indecisive like me, or want to try a little of several kinds of bread, I'd recommend the 4-piece gift set with a different bread in each. Being able to enjoy cream cheese, black garlic cream cheese, sweet potato, and baguette all at once was great.
Above all, since it's bread made using garlic, Danyang's local specialty, it has a different feel from a typical bread gift. If you're looking for a travel gift, souvenir, or snack for family or friends after a Danyang trip, this could be a thoughtful choice.
Does the garlic bread keep until the next day? How to reheat it
We tried some of the Danppang Bakery garlic bread again the next day too, and it tasted just as good with no real difference 😋 Still, if you want to enjoy it like freshly baked bread, they say heating it in an air fryer or oven at 165°C for about 3 minutes makes it taste even better! I'll have to try warming it up next time too, haha.
Worth adding to a Danyang Gugyeong Market food walk
That day at Gugyeong Market we also picked up some dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken). Filling up on dakgangjeong and finishing with Danppang Bakery garlic bread for dessert — this combo was seriously the best 😆 Gugyeong Market has such a wide variety of food that you could pack a few things to eat back at your accommodation, or find a spot nearby and eat picnic-style. Delicious food and travel gifts, all sorted in one stop 😎 Danppang Bakery, the Danyang garlic bread spot at Gugyeong Market — highly recommended 👍🏻
