I was on my way back from Samsung Seoul Hospital to Nambu Bus Terminal, and I figured I'd stop by a bakery I'd been eyeing near Gyodae Station and grab lunch too — while looking for somewhere to eat alone, I found Halls Gimbap Main Branch. Perfect menu for when you want a simple, no-fuss solo meal 😘

How is it this pretty 😍 Nice-looking and great-tasting Halls gimbap

I wanted something a bit more stuffed than the basic rolls today, so I visited this Gyodae gimbap spot, "Halls Gimbap Main Branch." They use less rice and pack in more filling — lots of hearty-looking menu items caught my eye!

Where to sit alone: bar table or terrace

What should I order 😋 — I walked in still deciding. Halls Gimbap Main Branch has a bar table inside that's great for eating alone.

The weather's been getting cooler lately, so sitting alone out on the terrace was just perfect 💗 Solo dining is great, but this Gyodae gimbap favorite is also great with a group, since you can order lots of different dishes to share.

What we ordered from the Halls Gimbap menu

I looked over the menu at Halls Gimbap Main Branch. Among the many options, the Jindo scallion tuna and double-cheese egg rolls caught my eye 💗 The konjac water-parsley roll, labeled as a vegetarian gimbap, was interesting too, and if it's your first visit, the Halls gimbap made with spicy braised fish cake looks tasty as well 😋

I sat on the terrace where I could see the green plants..💚 The staff here must have really fast hands! The food came out incredibly quickly haha

Jindo scallion tuna gimbap: more tuna than mayo

First up was the Jindo scallion tuna gimbap. Halls' tuna gimbap felt different somehow? Usually with tuna mayo, the mayonnaise flavor tends to overpower the tuna.

But at Halls, they cut way back on the mayonnaise and loaded it up with tuna instead 🧡 So with the first bite, instead of that heavy, rich mayo taste, you get more of the tuna's clean, savory flavor haha

On top of that, the Jindo scallions added a subtle aroma and texture. The scallion-tuna combo works so well together 😘

Personally I love tuna gimbap, but too much mayo makes it greasy — I loved that Halls cut down on the mayo and loaded up on tuna instead 👍 If you like the savory, clean flavor of tuna, this one's for you haha

There's a bonito broth served on the side, so I sipped on that little by little in between bites 😋

Halls dakgangjeong, the restaurant's number-one recommendation

Whoaaa 😲 the dakgangjeong is seriously insane!! It's listed as the #1 recommendation at Halls, so I had to order it, and you can even order it as a set with gimbap so you really must try it!!! Apparently they use domestic refrigerated chicken thigh prepped fresh that same dawn, and thanks to that it's not dry at all — juicy with a "crunch crunch" texture that's amazing 👍

The house-made sauce is made without corn syrup, so it's cleaner-tasting rather than the usual sticky sauce. On top there's a topping of fresh cheongyang chili peppers, and eating them together with the chicken is the real kicker 🧡

The distinctive sharp bite of cheongyang chili pairs so well with the sweet-spicy dakgangjeong that I want to order it again at Halls. It also goes ridiculously well with the gimbap, so please please please x10000 try it 😆

Double-cheese egg gimbap: 5 eggs and 7 perilla leaves

And the dish that paired so well with the dakgangjeong was the double-cheese egg gimbap. Instead of rice, it's packed with layers of egg sheet — apparently a whopping 5 eggs go into it!! 😲

It's mild, soft, and nutty in flavor, and the double-cheese egg gimbap comes with a sauce on the side, so dipping it in the sauce was a nice touch haha

The egg sheet is layered in softly, so it has a nice pillowy texture when you bite into it. On top of that, there are a whopping 7 perilla leaves in there, and the perilla's distinctive fragrant aroma pairs really well with the soft, nutty flavor of the egg and cheese 💛

Is Halls Gimbap Main Branch worth a solo lunch?

When you're grabbing lunch near Gyodae Station and looking for something simple to eat solo, this is a Gyodae gimbap lunch spot with no pressure for a solo meal. The menu is varied enough that even solo diners can pick according to their taste, and since there's a set menu too, be sure to pair your gimbap with the dakgangjeong (so good 🥰)
