Hanok rafter seats and review-event cold jeyuk in Insadong: Wolhadong

In short

Wolhadong is a pork gomtang (clear bone broth soup) restaurant set in a hanok inside an alley off Insadong 8-gil in Jongno, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Anguk Station Exit 5. Two bowls of Wolha Gomtang cost 12,000 won each, and a Naver photo-review event added a taster of cold jeyuk (sliced boiled pork), whose cheonggeun-jang dipping sauce seasoned the clear, mild broth just right. With exposed rafters overhead, a bar table for solo diners and 4-person tables, Wolhadong suits both a quiet meal alone and lunch with parents.

Walking through the alleys of Insadong, I finally visited Wolhadong, the hanok (traditional Korean house) Korean restaurant famous near Anguk Station :)

It's been word-of-mouth famous as an Insadong restaurant for a while, so I finally made it there haha. Here's my review after trying the light pork gomtang and getting a taste of the cold jeyuk through their review event!

How to walk to Wolhadong from Anguk Station Exit 5

Wolhadong sits inside a tiled-roof hanok tucked in the alley off Insadong-8-gil, just a 4-minute walk from Anguk Station Exit 5. Once you turn into the alley, the tiled roof catches your eye right away 🙌

There's a toad ornament at the entrance — apparently rubbing its head brings good fortune, so I gave it a pat before going in lol

Inside the Wolhadong hanok: exposed rafters and seating

The first photo spot at Wolhadong is the exposed rafter ceiling you see right as you step through the door 📷 That distinct, quiet hanok atmosphere really comes through 🫢

I've been loving looking at hanok rafters lately ☺️ It really brings out that distinctive hanok mood. The ceiling shot with the rafters came out with a nice atmosphere too, don't you think? The bar table seats are great for solo dining, and there are also 4-person tables, so it was easy to sit according to how many people you're with :)

The ceilings are high so it doesn't feel cramped, and with the solid wood tables and soft lighting, I liked it the moment I walked in 👍 The staff were also really kind — they explained the menu in detail when I asked, and refilled side dishes generously when they ran low haha

Wolhadong menu, QR ordering and the photo-review event

Wolhadong's menu centers on gomtang, so it's a simple, focused lineup — which felt like real confidence in their main dish. The signature Wolha Gomtang is ₩12,000, and the spicy Hong Gomtang is ₩13,500.

Ordering is done via QR code! And there was a Naver photo review event for a cold jeyuk sample, so of course I did it 😎

Wolha Gomtang at 12,000 won: what does the clear broth taste like?

Wolhadong's Wolha Gomtang is ₩12,000, and it comes with rice already mixed into the clear, light broth.

Wolha Gomtang with rice mixed into the clear broth

The broth isn't milky but clear, which felt unfamiliar at first, but after one spoonful I understood why it's so popular. The broth is really light and clean, the kind you can keep eating without feeling weighed down. If you like bolder flavors, it might taste a bit bland to you. The pork came out thin and tender, melting in the mouth, with a clean taste and no gamey smell at all. And here's the cold jeyuk from the review event!

Cold jeyuk with cheonggeun-jang: how it pairs with the gomtang

Wolhadong's cold jeyuk is thinly sliced boiled pork served slightly chilled. It's chewy with a lot of texture, which made for a totally different experience alongside the gomtang. It's light without being bland, and the more you chew, the more the pork's natural flavor comes through. There was zero gamey pork smell, so it paired cleanly.

Dipping it in the cheonggeun-jang (green onion soybean paste sauce) that came with it really brought out the umami, and it paired amazingly with the gomtang. Since the gomtang broth isn't bold on its own, eating it together with the cold jeyuk made the seasoning feel perfectly balanced. Gomtang alone can feel a bit plain, but adding a piece of cold jeyuk with each spoonful made the meal much more filling and satisfying.

It's about a 4-minute walk from Anguk Station Exit 5, so public transit is convenient. I'd recommend double-checking the break time and timing your visit accordingly. Next time I go, I definitely want to try the Hong Gomtang (spicy version) and the squid salad.

After eating at Wolhadong, it's perfect timing to browse Ssamziegil in Insadong :) Just wandering through the alleys checking out little shops or free exhibitions can eat up a lot of time in a good way haha. Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Village are also nearby, so it's easy to build a course around them. Grabbing tea at a nearby traditional teahouse afterward would also be a nice, atmospheric way to end the day ❤️

That's Wolhadong, the Insadong restaurant I introduced today — light pork gomtang and chewy cold jeyuk 👍 The flavors aren't bold or heavy, so it's a clean, comfortable place to bring your parents or go on a casual date.
