How Was It for a Magok Work Dinner?

When looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant in Magok, taste matters, of course, but for an office dinner, accessibility and the atmosphere matter too.

Chadol Grill Magok is fairly spacious, so it did not feel cramped for a family meal and looked well suited to larger groups too. When I visited, there were indeed office groups dining there.

Chadol Grill Magok is known for samhap, a combination platter usually served with three ingredients, but my husband cannot eat shellfish, so we ordered aged brisket and aged quick-frozen pork belly instead.

Trying Aged Beef Brisket with My Child

Order of aged beef brisket

We ordered two servings of aged beef brisket. At ₩18,000 per serving, it felt like good value, and there was plenty, so we ate until we were full. When you go to a barbecue restaurant with a child, one thing you unexpectedly worry about most is whether they will eat the meat well.

Maybe because the savory brisket had been aged and was tender, my child really enjoyed it.

Grilling the brisket over charcoal seemed to bring out its nutty richness even more.

Though thinly sliced, it went down so easily with brisket’s distinctive nutty flavor. Brisket is on the rich side, so it can become a little much as you eat, but Chadol Grill Magok’s side dishes were clean and paired so well with it that I kept reaching for more.

Especially with the house-made onion sauce, the savory flavor and the brisket’s nuttiness made me want a drink.

Frozen Pork Belly Grilled Over Charcoal

And the dish I personally still think about from that day is the frozen pork belly. We ordered one serving, and it was ₩16,000.

One serving of quick-frozen pork belly

I have eaten plenty of frozen pork belly, but grilling it over charcoal gave it a completely different appeal.

Frozen pork belly is also a fatty cut, but grilling it over charcoal rendered some of the fat while bringing its savory flavor to life.

The brisket was softer and more savory, while the frozen pork belly was fattier with more bite, so I was glad we ordered both. If it is hard to pick just one, I think a larger group at a company dinner could split an order of brisket and pork belly and try each according to their preferences.

A Standout Side: Spicy Brisket Gochujang Stew

After meat, you simply cannot skip rice and stew, right? Since we had ordered plenty of fatty cuts—the brisket and frozen pork belly—we ordered the spicy brisket gochujang stew.

Order of brisket gochujang stew

At ₩7,000, I expected a small portion, but there was quite a lot. Rice is not included with the stew. If you want rice, I recommend ordering it separately or ordering sulbap, rice served in the stew.

But this gochujang stew was much tastier than I expected. With brisket in it, the broth itself was truly rich, and the nutty flavor from the meat made it the kind of dish that kept me going back for another spoonful.

Rich brisket gochujang stew

Its distinctively spicy, rich gochujang flavor was just right for having a spoonful between bites of meat. It would make a great drinking snack too; I nearly ordered soju several times, and I still regret holding back because I was there with my child. I kept thinking about it at home and tried making it, but it did not taste the same, so I think I will definitely order the gochujang stew whenever I visit Chadol Grill Magok.

What I Liked After Visiting

It Is Close to Magok Station

It is about 200 m from Exit 3 of Magok Station on Line 5, so it is easy to visit by public transit. When several people are meeting for something like a company dinner, being close to the station matters more than you might think.

The Brisket Is Tender and Savory

At under ₩20,000 per serving, it is good value, and it was tender enough for my child to enjoy while still having that lovely, distinctive brisket richness. There were many side dishes, and they paired so well with the meat that I kept eating the brisket. If you are looking for meat that both children and adults can enjoy for a family meal, I would recommend the aged brisket.

The Gochujang Stew Was an Unexpected Treat

The rich broth with brisket in it went well with the meat and with rice. I think I would order it again with the meat on my next visit.

Good to Know Before You Go

Korean BBQ restaurants in Magok can get busy with office dinners and gatherings on weekday evenings, so I recommend making a Naver reservation if you are coming for a company dinner or with a group.

Naver reservation wasabi rice benefit

At the moment, a Naver reservation also gets you free wasabi rice, which is a perfect match for the brisket.
