Seoul Korean BBQ dinner: charcoal beef short rib & Iberico pork
In short
Junggye Gogi Party Nowon Branch is a premium beef and pork barbecue restaurant between Nowon Station and Jungnye-dong in Seoul. Visiting at 5:30pm, the writer grilled hwangje sogalbisal (premium beef short rib) and Iberico kkotmoksal (pork collar) over charcoal, alternating between ssamjang, fresh wasabi and wholegrain mustard, before finishing with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and a yakult. With a well-balanced lineup of sauces and a rich stew, this was a Korean BBQ restaurant that stayed satisfying to the very last bite.

This time I went to check out Junggye Gogi Party Nowon Branch, near Nowon Station and Jungnye-dong, where you can enjoy good-quality, good-value premium meat.

As people who really love meat, this place gave us a perfect dinner.

The restaurant takes up a large space on the first floor, so it's easy to spot from a distance. The sign reads "Junggye Gogi Party Nowon Branch" in bold letters, and there's a cute pink pig balloon figure by the entrance that gives the place a nostalgic, friendly feel.
There's parking for about 7 cars. We visited around 5:30pm, and maybe because of that there weren't many customers when we arrived, but by around 6:30pm people were pouring in.
Restaurant atmosphere and tablet ordering
Walking in, I noticed the lively atmosphere typical of a Korean BBQ restaurant, along with an interior that was kept very clean.

Each table had a tablet PC installed, so we could order comfortably right from our seats.

One thing that caught my eye on the tablet screen was a note saying "put it on your plate, dip in salt or pile on the wasabi." The owner seemed genuinely serious about meat, preparing all sorts of sauces and side dishes.
On one side of the screen there was also a "Today's Glass of Wine" promotion recommended by a wine expert — I couldn't quite imagine pairing meat with wine, but it seemed like a great mood to enjoy either way.

Looking at the menu, both beef and pork were available, so we ordered the restaurant's signature dishes: hwangje sogalbisal (premium beef short rib) and Iberico kkotmoksal (pork collar).

Sauce and vegetable lineup
As soon as we ordered the meat, an array of sauces arrived — ssamjang, fresh wasabi, wholegrain mustard — so we could enjoy the meat to our taste,

and I really liked the variety of sauces and vegetables that brought out the meat's natural flavor.

Charcoal-grilled hwangje sogalbisal
After a wait, our ordered meat arrived. On a fancy black plate, wooden tags reading "hwangje sogalbisal" and "Iberico kkotmoksal" were stuck into the meat, and the bright red, fresh color with marbling blooming like snowflakes was a work of art.

First, the hwangje sogalbisal went onto the hot charcoal. The heat was strong, so the surface quickly turned a golden brown.
Picking up a thick, well-grilled piece of short rib and dipping it in ssamjang, it melted in my mouth without a hint of toughness.
The subtle charcoal aroma was soaked in, and the savory juices that burst with every bite were absolutely fantastic.

I also tried it with wasabi and wholegrain mustard, which cut the richness and made the umami explode.

Iberico kkotmoksal and melljeot
Next, the Iberico kkotmoksal went onto the grill. Thanks to its thick cut, it felt like grilling a steak at a fine-dining restaurant.

Alongside the meat, one side of the grill had a savory garlic oil sauce and melljeot (salted fish sauce) to add umami, plus long-sliced king oyster mushrooms.

Taking a thick-cut piece of Iberico collar and pork jowl together, the distinctive chewy, slightly crisp texture and clean finish were the kind of overwhelming flavor you'd expect from a top Nowon BBQ spot.
Finishing with doenjang jjigae and yakult
You absolutely can't skip the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) that you start craving between bites of meat! The stew arrived bubbling in a stone pot, and once I ladled it into my own bowl, it was packed with soft tofu, enoki mushrooms, zucchini, onion and more.

A big spoonful of the broth washed away the richness of the meat and warmed me up from the inside, and I ended up finishing a whole bowl of rice.

The yakult served at the end made it a perfect meal.
Final thoughts
Being able to enjoy high-quality premium meat to your heart's content in a clean, comfortable setting feels like the biggest strength of Junggye Gogi Party Nowon Branch. Both the beef short rib and the Iberico pork collar had such distinct charm that I couldn't pick a favorite — both were perfect. Above all, the variety of sauces to pair with the meat and the deep-flavored stew were so well balanced that I could enjoy every last piece without getting tired of it. It was a truly satisfying meal.
