The weather has suddenly gotten so much cooler lately, and I feel like my appetite is back! I kept craving fresh, chewy sashimi, so I visited Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch after hearing that you can enjoy high-quality sashimi at reasonable prices right on Guwol-dong Rodeo Street in Incheon :)

As soon as I stepped inside, I was welcomed by a spacious, pleasant dining room! The clean, bright interior looked just right for a company dinner, drinks with friends, or a date :)

Another big plus is the hours: it is open from 11 AM until 3 AM the next day, so you can leisurely enjoy fresh sashimi even late at night 👍

From live sashimi to lunch specials

At Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch, you can try live sashimi from a range of fish! There are assorted sashimi platters made with seasonal fresh fish, as well as single-fish orders such as rockfish, flounder, and mullet.

You can also try the especially popular raw shrimp and gizzard shad sashimi this season! The raw shrimp sashimi comes in several sizes, so if I come back with my partner, I have to get raw shrimp with soju then 😂

The basic side dishes arrived: spicy mixed sashimi, seaweed soup, salad, and more!

You can freely help yourself to as much extra perilla leaf, lettuce, pepper, dipping sauce, and more as you want at the self bar, without feeling awkward. That is a major win for anyone who loves wrapping sashimi 👍

What especially caught my eye was the self-serve kimchi pancake station ✨ You can cook your own kimchi pancakes and have as many as you want 🥹

I cooked up one nicely browned kimchi pancake, and it had a decent amount of kimchi in it and was really tasty haha! Honestly, for anyone drinking, this alone finishes the bar-snack game -

Just looking at the plate piled high with thickly sliced rockfish sashimi, I could not help saying what incredible value it was.

Maybe because the sashimi was cut from such fresh rockfish, the flesh was wonderfully firm and springy! The more I chewed, the more its distinct crisp-chewy texture and nutty sweetness filled my mouth. So delicious 🥹

It is tasty lightly dipped in chojang (sweet-spicy vinegar sauce), but wrap it in a perilla leaf with wasabi soy sauce, sesame oil, and garlic from the self bar, and the drinks really go down easy 😂

I ordered rockfish sashimi for three.

Spicy fish stew and dessert to finish

After happily filling up on sashimi, I ordered spicy fish stew to finish!

With flakes of fish clinging to the bones, crown daisy, and bean sprouts piled in, the broth became richer and pleasantly spicy as it bubbled away 👍

The pot was deeper than I expected, so it felt like it would never end no matter how much I ate - why was the portion so generous? 😂 We were full and stopped at the stew, but the self bar even had free ramen noodles and sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes) 🥹

There was even ice cream and coffee for an after-meal palate cleanser 🎶 I had been craving something sweet and cold after sashimi, so it was such a thoughtful touch and a lovely finish :)
