A Relaxed Meal Across from Seoul Station

While looking for somewhere to go on a date around Seoul Station, we visited Yunseul. Yunseul is in Grand Central directly across from Seoul Station, so it was really easy to get to. More than anything, the sophisticated black-toned interior and the view of Seoul Station outside the windows really stood out. It had such a calm, polished atmosphere that it would suit not only a date, but also a family meal or gathering.

Seoul Station is such a convenient place to meet since you can get there by subway or train, right? Yunseul meant we did not have to travel far from the station, which made the route easy for a date or get-together.

Black Interiors and a Seoul Station View

The whole interior was done in black, making it feel neat yet upscale. It was calm rather than overly casual, so I think it would work well for an anniversary meal or dinner with your parents, too.

What I liked most at Yunseul was the Seoul Station view outside the window. From up high, you can look down over the station and the surrounding city, and it feels so open that I kept glancing outside during our meal. When you are looking for a date spot around Seoul Station, the food matters, but the atmosphere matters quite a lot too, right? Yunseul's station view and calm interior worked so nicely together, making it easy to set the mood for a date.

The Two-Person Yunseul Set with Anchovy Broth

We ordered the Yunseul Set for two. It was a shabu-shabu set that lets you add one side dish, and you could choose the broth as well. We chose anchovy broth and minari goni jeon (water parsley and pollock milt pancake) for our side. It was a good setup for two people since we could have shabu-shabu and a side together, and I also liked getting to try a little of everything.

We had our shabu-shabu with anchovy broth, and it was light and clean overall. Rather than being rich or intensely seasoned, it was a delicate style that paired beautifully with the fresh vegetables.

Once we added the minari and mushrooms and cooked them, the minari's distinctive fragrant flavor and the mushrooms' texture made the broth even tastier. The meat was tender and fresh too, and lightly cooking it in the broth made it easy to keep eating without feeling weighed down. I think this would suit anyone who wants a clean, not-too-heavy shabu-shabu meal around Seoul Station.

The sauces for the shabu-shabu also came on individual plates, which was really nice and hygienic.

Especially when we added lots of fragrant minari, its aroma spread through the anchovy broth and went so well with it.

With shabu-shabu bubbling away like this, it is great to pick out the meat, vegetables, minari, and bean sprouts however you like and dip them in the sauces in front of you. As the evenings get chilly, having a warm bowl of broth like this is just sooo nice.

And once you have finished the shabu-shabu, you cannot skip kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), right? There was more minari in the noodles too, so adding it all in for kalguksu made it unbelievably deliciousㅠㅠㅠ

My First Minari Goni Jeon

The minari goni jeon we chose as a side was something I had never tried before. At first, I was curious what a pancake with goni would taste like, but the combination worked much better than I expected. The goni was plump, and each bite was soft with a real burst of savory flavor. Personally, it had the plump, tender texture of picking out and eating just the meaty part of a clam.

With the fragrance of minari added in, it was not greasy and was easy to enjoy with its nutty flavor. Since the shabu-shabu was light and delicate, having a nutty, savory side like the minari goni jeon made for a great combination. It was my first time trying it, but it was one of the dishes I remembered most from that day.

Yunseul for Seoul Station Dates and Gatherings

I was happy with both the atmosphere and food at Yunseul near Seoul Station. It was easy to reach in Grand Central directly across from the station, and the black interior and Seoul Station view outside were wonderful. The Yunseul Set for two we had let us enjoy anchovy-broth shabu-shabu with fresh minari, mushrooms, and tender meat without feeling too heavy. The minari goni jeon we chose as a side was memorable too, with the savory flavor of plump goni and fragrant minari. If you are looking for a shabu-shabu restaurant with a nice atmosphere around Seoul Station, or somewhere for a date, anniversary meal, or gathering, Yunseul could be worth a visit.
