Incheon sashimi restaurant for mullet: Veteran Fish Market
In short
Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch is a sashimi restaurant in Namdong, Incheon. After a Saturday-evening wait, I had seasonal mullet sashimi and algoni-tang for 32,000 won and 12,000 won, plus a DIY kimchi pancake and dessert. A great choice for fresh seasonal sashimi and a generous self-service bar.

A sashimi restaurant near Arts Center Station and Rodeo Street
Actually, I came back here after having large yellowtail in winter. This time, I had seasonal mullet sashimi.
It is right by Incheon Subway's Arts Center Station and the heart of Rodeo Street, making it a great spot for gatherings or company dinners. The restaurant is quite large, and rows of huge fish tanks at the entrance let you see the fresh seafood for yourself!

The tanks were clean and the fish looked lively, so I immediately felt I could trust the food. Since it is fall, lots of people were also having fresh shrimp in Guwol-dong.

A Saturday-evening wait and plenty of tables
I arrived around 7 p.m. on Saturday—can you see the line? Even though the place is huge, it is a popular Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant where people line up to eat!

The place is really big, right? Lots of people also come here for company dinners in Guwol-dong. If you are looking for an outdoor drinking atmosphere, there are terrace seats too! There was a wait, but with plenty of tables and quick turnover, the line tended to move fairly fast even at peak time.

From DIY kimchi pancakes to dessert
Veteran General Fish Market has a really well-stocked self-service corner too! Along with basic side dishes, sujebi (hand-torn dough soup) and ramen noodles, there is kimchi pancake batter so you can make your own. The kimchi pancakes here are seriously good,,

On the way out, there was coffee and ice cream for dessert too. A Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant that gets dessert right as well!

Ordering barley mullet sashimi and algoni-tang
I ordered the barley mullet sashimi for two at 32.0 and algoni-tang at 12.0.

The basic spread included seaweed soup, salad, roasted seaweed, wasabi, makjang (Korean dipping sauce), white kimchi, salted pollock roe, and grilled Pacific saury.

This is the kimchi pancake I made at the self-service bar! The kimchi pancakes here are really delicious. This alone makes a bottle of soju disappear in no time~!

Starting with kimchi pancake and a somac (soju-and-beer mix) really made the fatigue built up over the week disappear, haha.

Algoni-tang instead of spicy fish stew
I usually only have maeuntang (spicy fish stew), but I tried algoni-tang this time. With minari, fish roe, milt, tofu, and radish, the broth was so refreshing and savory.

Can you see how generously packed it is with roe and milt? The algoni-tang at this Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant is delicious too, so I recommend it instead of spicy fish stew!

The springy texture of seasonal barley mullet sashimi
Barley mullet sashimi for two, 32.0. This was mullet sashimi at its seasonal peak, and it sold out right after we ordered. Because they catch it straight from the tank and prepare it, you can see the freshness for yourself.

Once the mullet sashimi came out as the main dish, the meal felt so generous, haha. The Guwol-dong mullet sashimi was cut to a nice thickness and had an appealing firm yet springy texture! There was no fishy smell or taste at all; the more I chewed, the more its subtle sweetness and nuttiness came through. It was great with soju.

Finishing with three-flavor ice cream makes this Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant perfect to the very end!
What I liked about this visit
- Because the fish is caught from the tank and prepared right away, there was no fishiness at all, and I could really enjoy the chewy, nutty appeal of mullet sashimi.
- The prices were reasonable, with substantial basic banchan (side dishes) and an easy-to-use self-service bar, so I was very satisfied. The DIY kimchi pancakes were especially delicious!
- It is near Arts Center Station and Guwol-dong Rodeo Street, so it is a good place for gatherings or company dinners.
- With its generous size, quick turnover, and lively atmosphere, it is a reliable sashimi restaurant for a meal that will not disappoint. I would return 100%!
