Family dining with high chairs at a Jeju BBQ restaurant: Jeju Udae
In short
Jeju Udae is a straw-smoked udae galbi (thick-cut short rib) restaurant in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju, a short drive from Jeju Airport. A family meal of two servings of straw-smoked udae galbi with kkakdugi fried rice, two bowls of rice and a drink came to 75,000 won, and staff grilled the meat at the table, cutting the child's pieces smaller. With a high chair ready and a tomato marinade closing the meal like a course, Jeju Udae was an easy place to eat with a young child.

I've had black pork plenty of times on trips to Jeju, but this time I wanted something a little different, so I visited Jeju Udae in Nohyeong-dong. It's close to Jeju Airport, so it works well as a meal stop on the first or last day of a trip, and it turned out to be a comfortable Jeju Nohyeong restaurant to visit with a kid too.
We ordered two servings of straw-smoked udae galbi (short rib) with kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice, two bowls of rice, and a drink, which came to ₩75,000 total. You don't have to grill it yourself — the staff grills the meat for you — and between the straw-smoking process, the variety of sauces and side dishes, and the tomato marinade at the end, the whole meal flowed along in a pretty fun way.

Where is Jeju Udae in Nohyeong-dong, and does it have high chairs and parking?
Jeju Udae is located at 39 Noyeon-ro, 1st floor, Jeju-si. It's near Jeju Airport in Nohyeong-dong, so it's a good spot to check when you're looking for restaurants near Jeju Airport.
Parking is available in front of the restaurant, but the space isn't very generous. If there's no spot, the genuinely spacious Nohyeong paid parking lot is about a 1-minute walk away, and depending on what the staff tell you, free parking may be available — worth checking before you go. As someone visiting with a kid, I also appreciated that a baby chair was already set up.

Jeju Udae menu and prices: our meal came to 75,000 won
What we ate this time was the straw-smoked udae galbi. Our order was two servings of straw-smoked udae galbi + kkakdugi fried rice + two bowls of rice + a drink, and the total was ₩75,000.
Looking at just the meat, the price might feel a bit steep, but once I actually tried it, it was pre-seared, straw-smoked, and then grilled tableside by staff. On top of that, the side dishes and sauces were varied and it led into a dessert at the end, so I think it's worth weighing the whole meal experience when comparing Jeju Udae's prices.

Side dishes at Jeju Udae come with tortillas for building your own wraps
Jeju Udae Nohyeong branch was pretty interesting from the basic table setting alone, before the meat even arrived. Instead of just the usual ssamjang and salt you'd see at a typical Korean BBQ place, you get perilla leaf pickles made with olive oil, cheongyang chili pepper pesto, clear salt, garlic sauce, and a nut ssamjang, among others.
On top of that come pickled onions made with green tangerine syrup, scallion strips, tortillas, coleslaw, mayo sauce, scallion kimchi, and lemon-pickled cucumber. They explained that the cheongyang chili pesto works like wasabi — a little dab on top of the meat — while the lemon-pickled cucumber can be used like ssammu (pickled radish) to wrap the meat.
In particular, the combination of udae galbi, coleslaw, and sauce wrapped in a tortilla felt different from a typical Korean BBQ place, and it was fun mixing and matching one combination at a time.

Straw-smoked udae galbi, smoked over roaring flames
The most eye-catching moment at Jeju Udae was watching the meat get infused with straw smoke. They first sear the udae galbi, then light straw on fire to smoke it with strong flames and smoke — seeing it in person was quite striking visually. It was also a great moment to capture in photos or video.
Unlike simply grilling on a griddle, going through the straw-smoking process adds a subtle smoky flavor to the meat, so if you're looking for a Jeju udae galbi spot, this is a process worth watching for.

The deep flavor that only comes from grilling with the bone still on — that's the appeal of udae galbi.

Staff grill the udae galbi at your table
Once the searing and smoking are done, the udae galbi is brought to the table and cut into bite-sized pieces right in front of you. After that, staff kept grilling it for us, so we could just eat comfortably.
Since we were there with a kid, they cut the child's portion of meat even smaller separately. Keeping an eye on a kid while also grilling meat is honestly a lot to juggle, so having someone grill for us made a real difference from a parent's perspective. That makes this place a good fit if you're looking for a Jeju restaurant to bring kids to, or one to visit with your own parents.

Alcohol to pair with the meal, and lockers for valuables — thoughtful touches like these are everywhere.
Seeing them make sure even the kid could eat comfortably made me feel this wasn't just a friendly restaurant, but one that genuinely looks out for families.

The Jeju Udae galbi, after being seared and straw-smoked, had a subtle smoky note that blended nicely with the deep beefy flavor. The outside grilled up savory while the inside stayed moist and tender, and thanks to just the right amount of fat, the more you chewed, the more juice and savoriness came through. The smoke flavor wasn't overpowering either, so it didn't cover up the meat's own natural taste.
The first bite is nice with a light dip in salt, and then trying it with the cheongyang chili pesto or lemon-pickled cucumber gives you a whole different flavor. Having staff grill it exactly right so we could eat it juicy and comfortable was satisfying too.

Don't skip the kkakdugi fried rice at Jeju Udae
The meat at Jeju Udae was delicious, but the dish I keep thinking back to is honestly the kkakdugi fried rice. After trimming the udae galbi, they use the bits of meat left clinging around the bone and pile it on top of the fried rice — and it's genuinely excellent.
Above all, the seasoning wasn't too salty or too sweet. The umami of the kkakdugi, the rice, and the meat balanced out nicely, making it the perfect closer after the udae galbi. If you're deciding what to order at Jeju Udae, I'd recommend not stopping at the meat and trying the kkakdugi fried rice too.
Finishing with tomato marinade
After the meat and the fried rice, we were pretty full, but then a small dessert came out at the end. The dish whose name I couldn't quite recall right away turned out to be the tomato marinade.
After eating a hearty amount of meat, the refreshing tomato cleared the palate, making for a clean finish. Going through the basic side dishes, straw-smoked udae galbi, fried rice, and then the tomato marinade in sequence made it feel less like just eating meat and more like a proper course.

Jeju Udae with a young child: how it worked as a family meal
What I was most satisfied with at Jeju Udae Nohyeong branch this time was the flavor of the meat and the comfortable service. The straw-smoked udae galbi let us enjoy the smoky flavor along with all sorts of sauces, and having staff grill it for us made eating with the kids so much easier.

The thoughtful touch of cutting the meat smaller because we had a kid especially stuck with me. The variety of ways to enjoy the meat, from the tortillas to the cheongyang chili pesto to the green tangerine pickled onions, also felt like something unique to Jeju Udae.
Our family ate well and filled up on two servings of straw-smoked udae galbi, kkakdugi fried rice, two bowls of rice, and a drink for ₩75,000 total. If you're near Jeju Airport in Nohyeong-dong looking for a different kind of Jeju beef restaurant, or trying to figure out somewhere comfortable for a family meal on your first or last day of the trip, it's worth putting on your list.
Not having to grill the meat yourself and having a baby chair on hand made Jeju Udae Nohyeong branch a solid choice for family travelers looking for a Jeju restaurant to bring kids to.
