Hongdae fusion Chinese restaurant with hand-cut noodles: Seodamheon
In short
Seodamheon Hongdae Main Branch is a hanok-style fusion Chinese restaurant in a Yeonnam-dong alley near the Gyeongui Line Forest Park in Seoul. The set for two costs 32,000 won and brings the signature samjjamyeon and mokhwasom tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and adding fried rice made it a full meal — the thick hand-cut dosak noodles come with both jjajang and flame-grilled jjamppong, and one drop of mala oil changes the whole bowl. A unique restaurant near Hongik University Station, fusion Chinese food jjajangmyeon made with Korean-style dosakmyeon (hand-shaved noodles) in a modern hanok atmosphere for a great date or family meal — tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), jjajangmyeon, fried rice! The perfect transformation of Chinese food! Seodamheon I went on a date to this already-famous spot in Hongdae, Yeonnam-dong!!!!

Where is Seodamheon Hongdae? An alley off the Gyeongui Line Forest Park

Seodamheon is close to the buzzing Gyeongui Line Forest Park. Wander through the alleys and soak up the Yeonnam-dong vibe, and you'll find Seodamheon — luxurious, stylish, and radiating traditional beauty. It's set a bit inside an alley. *They say there's usually a wait during peak hours — it's that popular a hotspot.

A fusion of Korean and Chinese food!

The gat (traditional hat) hanging at the entrance and the upside-down pine tree — maybe those are Seodamheon's symbols! Inside, rather than a Chinese restaurant, it's a thoroughly Korean hanok concept.
Inside Seodamheon: hanok atmosphere and seating

The interior is quite spacious and a clean hanok atmosphere. It was a weekday lunch, and nearly every table was full! Many families with kids, office workers, and groups of friends — it was a really relaxed mealtime.
On one side there are bar-style seats for solo diners too. Great for two people sitting side by side!

We were seated at a window table for two. The soft lighting and the interior details everywhere felt luxurious and sophisticated.

With a Naver receipt review there's a nostalgic snack, sweet potato candy, as a service, and instructions for eating with mala oil and vinegar are also provided, so make sure to try it!
Chinese food made with Korean-style dosakmyeon — it was fascinating just from the visuals. A noodle that lets you feel both the familiarity of kalguksu and the texture of dosakmyeon, used to make Korean-style Chinese cuisine.

What comes in the 32,000-won set for two
Seodamheon's signature! Samjjamyeon, mountain and sea in one bowl! A truly special dish where you can enjoy jjajang and jjamppong at the same time! It's 1.5 portions, so it's perfect to share when you visit as a pair!

🥢 2-person set: ₩32,000 🥢 4-person set: ₩66,000 Seodamheon has set menus that are great value for money. The sets also come with a donut service!

A cutely set table — is this the youthful energy of Hongdae Yeonnam-dong! Hongdae always feels stylish whenever you visit. The sikhye (sweet rice drink) that came with it was so cute too! The combo of jjajangmyeon, tangsuyuk, and sikhye — spot on.
We ordered the 2-person set and added fried rice. It really looked delicious — visuals: pass! The taste and the price are both a great deal.

Signature samjjamyeon: jjajang and flame-grilled jjamppong in one bowl
Seodamheon's signature, flagship dish — samjjamyeon. A thick, wide dosakmyeon noodle topped with both jjajang and charcoal-grilled jjamppong — an incredible dish.

How to eat samjjamyeon, mala oil included
How to eat samjjamyeon: mix the jjajang and the charcoal-grilled jjamppong together evenly! Enjoy the original flavor first, then add a small amount of mala oil and vinegar to taste partway through!
Jjajangmyeon meeting dosakmyeon! I've had hand-pulled noodles before, but dosakmyeon? It's not a combination I couldn't imagine, but it's not one I'd actually seen before either.

I tried some in the jjajang sauce and some in the jjamppong sauce separately. The noodle's texture is so distinctly dosakmyeon that even the jjajangmyeon felt like a special dish. The jjajangmyeon was really delicious too, but the dosakmyeon combined with the charcoal-grilled jjamppong sauce was truly the most captivating.

There's the taste of jjamppong, and there's the taste of the smoky stir-fried squid sauce too, and Chinese and Korean flavors come together really well. The spiciness cuts through what could otherwise be greasy Chinese food — bold, but somehow addictive! As Seodamheon's signature dish, both the taste and the visuals were impressive.

And the moment you add one drop of mala oil at the end! The flavor changes 180 degrees like magic! With the mala flavor added, it goes from a Korean feel straight into a Chinese feel. Make sure to enjoy that final charm too!
What does mokhwasom tangsuyuk look like?

Delicious just to look at — mokhwasolm (cotton boll) tangsuyuk Round tangsuyuk pieces topped elegantly with fried lotus root, arriving like a work of art.

After eating the usual long strips of tangsuyuk, running into round ones felt special, like eating an entirely different dish.

Freshly fried tangsuyuk, round and plump — sweet and tangy sauce with crispy tangsuyuk, really, really delicious. This is what happens when you add two extra spoonfuls of sophistication — Seodamheon Hongdae's tangsuyuk!!!!

The fried rice we added, full of smoky wok flavor
And if word hasn't gotten around yet, this is fried rice worth talking about. Of all the fried rice I've had recently, this was the most generous and delicious.

Loaded with plenty of ingredients from the start — sweet peas, crab sticks, scallions, egg, and other vegetables stir-fried fast over high heat with the distinctive Chinese sauce, coming out with that smoky wok-hei flavor. It paired really well with the samjjamyeon and tangsuyuk. We ordered it for two, but the portion was huge, so watch out for overeating haha.
Why Seodamheon works for a Yeonnam-dong date
Found near Hongik University Station, Yeonnam-dong, and Gyeongui Line Forest Park — an unusual fusion Chinese restaurant, perfect for a distinctive date! Samjjamyeon made with Korean-style dosakmyeon, mokhwasolm tangsuyuk that's trendy from the visuals alone, and fried rice that's out-of-this-world delicious! The interior is special too, and the taste and price are great, so it's an easy, impressive date without breaking the bank. If you're looking for a restaurant in Hongdae or Yeonnam-dong, I recommend the fusion Chinese restaurant Seodamheon.
