Busan Korean BBQ restaurant with pork skin: Gim Geumja

In short

Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. We had marinated galbi and cream udon, ₩1,000 bone soup, honeycomb pork skin, and young napa cabbage bibimbap. A lively, friendly choice for dinner or drinks late into the night.

Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch (김금자숯불갈비 대연점) is in a great spot in Daeyeon-dong, but I was always curious because it was so packed whenever I passed by. I came for dinner with my husband.

Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch is open 16:00–01:00 on weekdays and 11:30–01:00 on weekends. It is close to Exit 2 of Motgol Station, and we parked at the Nam-gu Office parking lot.

There were so many customers that I took this photo only after we had finished eating, but at peak time the restaurant was full with company dinners and group gatherings. The staff were practically flying around.. Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi is also a good choice for anyone planning a group get-together, as there is a group room toward the back for 4 to 16 adults.

Korean pork galbi grilled directly over real charcoal

Meat just tastes best grilled over charcoal, right? They use carefully selected Korean pork galbi and grill it directly over real charcoal, so how could it not be delicious? It is especially well suited to anyone looking for a spot in Daeyeon-dong to have meat and a drink. I also loved that it stays open late, making it good not only for dinner but for late-night drinks too. I want to drink somewhere loud and bustling too, but I can't because of the baby—so sad! 🤣

The cool, tangy muksabal (chilled acorn-jelly soup) was delicious. A perfect match for the meat.

Nostalgic jjonddeugi (sweet, chewy grilled snack)—do kids these days even know this? Put over the charcoal, it got wonderfully crisp and was so good.

Rather than cheap imported meat, they use carefully selected Korean pork galbi and cook it over powerful real-charcoal heat. It is the very definition of delicious charcoal-grilled pork galbi.

Could the marinated galbi and cream udon set work for kids too?

They also have the unusual marinated galbi and cream udon set, so I ordered that. You can adjust the spice level, and families visiting with young children could order it without spice so the kids can enjoy it too.

It is an unusual combination. The cream udon tasted like something I had as a child! Though adults will probably be focused entirely on the drinks and meat. It is a menu item younger diners, or anyone with a kid-like palate, would enjoy.

₩1,000 bone soup and honeycomb pork skin

They sell bone soup too—guess how much~? Just ₩1,000. It has plenty of broth and meat, and tastes like tender gamjatang (pork-bone stew) meat. I picked the meat off the bones for the baby, and the baby ate it so well~ If you are feeding it to a child, try asking for no pepper from the start.

Honeycomb pork skin is the perfect item to try alongside the pork galbi at Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch. I joined an in-store event and received it.

I love pork skin, so I never skip it when I go to a meat restaurant, and pork skin grilled over charcoal is even better. They also gave us a press plate, which made grilling it easy.

Crisp outside and tender inside—I gave my husband one piece and ate the rest myself. Next time, I think I will order the pork skin from the beginning. It came with soybean powder and sauce too, so good. The pork skin was so tasty that I think this is a great place not only for a first round of meat in Daeyeon-dong before moving elsewhere, but also for anyone wanting to keep their drinks going at one table until late.

Sweet-and-salty charcoal galbi. There were so many customers and the staff were genuinely busy, but they were still kind. It had been a while since I visited such a popular, noisy restaurant, and it somehow lifted my mood too haha.

Young napa cabbage bibimbap to finish the meal

They have young napa cabbage bibimbap (mixed rice), so we finished with rice! It was not overly seasoned and had a wholesome flavor. Visit on a day when you are craving pork galbi in Daeyeon-dong, or when you need a relaxed Daeyeon-dong pork-galbi venue for a company dinner. It is easy to reach from Motgol Station and stays open late, making it a Daeyeon-dong meat restaurant that works wonderfully from dinner through drinks.
