Shabu kalguksu course in Busan: Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu
In short
Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is a shabu-shabu and handmade kalguksu restaurant in Munhyeon-dong, Busan. I had two regular-spice red-broth portions with extra sirloin and sujebi, then finished with kimchi and minari kimchi fried rice. Verdict: a full, deeply satisfying shabu course I keep returning to.

Yesterday I went back to Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu (윤우재 문현샤브 칼국수), one of my Munhyeon-dong repeat-repeat-repeat spots that I’ve visited more than 10 times! It’s where I think of when I want a hearty meal of spicy broth, vegetables, meat, kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), and fried rice. They have plenty of high chairs and the seating is comfortable too, so I’d definitely recommend it for a family meal :)

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is close to Exit 3 of Jigegol Station and is also easy to reach from Exit 2 of Munhyeon Station. It’s on the first floor of the Daerim City Plaza apartment building at Munhyeon Rotary.

If you visit by car, free parking support was available when using the B1 commercial parking lot at Daerim City Plaza :) Inside, the clean and tidy black-and-white interior has mostly tables for four to eight people. Reservations are possible, making it great for groups, and there are lots of high chairs—perfect for a family meal with kids, a date, or a gathering.

The shabu kalguksu set and seafood scallion pancake
Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu’s signature menu is shabu kalguksu: each person gets 70 g of sirloin, vegetables and mushrooms, handmade kalguksu, and fried rice. You can choose red or white broth, and adjust the spice level for either one ✔️ They also sell assorted add-ins and a crispy seafood scallion pancake as sides. Their pancake is seriously sooo good—crisp and loaded with seafood..🤍

Every table comes with an hourglass timer, paper cups, wasabi, soy sauce, small dipping dishes, a bottle opener, and tissues, while kimchi is served as a banchan (side dish). You can freely refill kimchi, radish, and broth at the self-serve bar!! By the way, the kimchi is Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu’s pride and secret weapon ✨ They say the recipe was passed down by a kimchi master in Mokpo and the kimchi is made in-house every day with Korean cabbage. It is an incredible match for both shabu-shabu and kalguksu.

Red-broth shabu kalguksu with extra sirloin
Then came today’s main event: two portions of regular-spice shabu kalguksu with red broth, plus 140 g of sirloin and an extra sujebi (hand-torn dough) add-in 🤍

Fresh beef sirloin, with 70 g served per person. We wanted lots of meat that day, so we added another 140 g, haha. The pot was piled high with fragrant minari (water parsley), mushrooms, potatoes, and onions, all soaking up the bold yet deeply flavorful broth. The red one is a long-simmered beef-bone broth, while the white one is a deep, clean seafood broth!
Once the vegetables start bubbling away, it’s time to drop in the meat! It cooks in almost a minute ❤️ Wrap that tender beef generously in fragrant minari, and the herb’s fresh aroma and crunch absorb all the savory meat flavor and spicy broth. Every bite bursts with flavor—it’s honestly amazing ㅠㅠ!!

The texture pairing of chewy mushrooms and tender meat was unreal, and remember how I said the kimchi here was good? With kimchi, I just kept eating and eating. Went back for unlimited kimchi refills lol.

The onions, softened until sweet in the spicy broth, and the fluffy, perfectly cooked potatoes were also ridiculously good with the meat!

And just like that, we wiped it all out, haha. After you finish the shabu-shabu, they add the kalguksu. There was extra broth at the self-serve bar if needed, and each table had an hourglass timer, so it was easy to eat without timing it yourself.

The handmade kalguksu was my favorite
The shabu-shabu, kalguksu, and fried rice are all delicious here, but if I had to pick the best one, I’d choose the kalguksu immediately..🤍 The noodles are wonderfully chewy thanks to the combination of richly developed broth and handmade noodles.

The kalguksu serving also normally comes with two pieces of sujebi, and they were so good that we added extra sujebi too. They aren’t the usual restaurant sujebi; they’re flat, more like kalguksu noodles!

Kalguksu and kimchi = ❤️ I’ve brought lots of friends here too, and they all rave about the kalguksu. A Munhyeon favorite for sure, hehe.

Minari kimchi fried rice you can’t skip, even when full
After the extra sirloin, kalguksu, and sujebi, I honestly felt like I was about to burst—but fried rice cannot be skipped.. Leave just a little broth in the pot, turn on the heat, and stir-fry away!! It’s the perfect finale to the shabu kalguksu course. The minari and kimchi fried rice has the fragrant herb and savory, spicy broth flavor worked through every grain, so you absolutely have to try it even if you’re full!!!

Once you scrape up the savory browned rice from the bottom of the pot, you can’t put your spoon down even when you’re full. A perfect finish 🤍 They were also running a promotion where you received one serving of sirloin for taking part in a receipt-review event.

From melt-in-your-mouth sirloin to handmade kalguksu developed over two years, rich broth, and nutty minari fried rice, Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu offers a great-value full course. From the main shabu through the noodles to the final fried rice, every part of the meal was satisfying without a single letdown. If you’re looking for a great kalguksu restaurant in Busan or a good place to eat in Munhyeon-dong, give it a visit 🤍 It’s one of my frequent repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat spots ><
