In short
Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is a Korean restaurant in Sokcho, Gangwon, serving soft tofu meals from early morning. My family ordered 3 Chodang sundubu and 1 spicy sundubu, and loved everything from the mild tofu to the warming broth. Verdict: a cozy, filling breakfast stop for a Sokcho trip.

Whenever I travel to Sokcho, the restaurant I never skip is Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu (진솔할머니순두부), one of my favorite places for sundubu! I had always come here on my own dime, so visiting this time as part of a tasting group felt really different and new! Haha.

That huge sign is impossible to miss, even from far away! Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is easy to spot at once, so there is no need to worry about getting lost on your first visit. There is also a large, open private parking lot, perfect even for nervous drivers—no parking stress at all! Plus, it opens early every morning, so for people like me who start their travel itinerary early, it is hard to beat as a breakfast spot to warm and fill your stomach before beginning a Sokcho trip~!
A spacious dining room with plenty of tables

There were guests having breakfast like us, so I photographed the interior while avoiding their area. Even with that section left out, you can tell how roomy and open the restaurant is, right!? My family visited early on a weekday morning and finished our meal at a leisurely pace. This is a well-known Sokcho sundubu restaurant that draws as many tourists at weekday lunchtime as it does on weekends. It is always bustling with diners, weekdays as well as weekends, and I could really feel Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu's enormous popularity once again.
A wide menu beyond sundubu

Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu offers more than just sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew): there are plenty of dishes to satisfy everyone you visit with. Choices include grilled dried pollack, sweet-and-savory bulgogi set meals loved by all ages, sanchae bibimbap (mixed rice with mountain vegetables) with fresh greens, acorn jelly, buckwheat pancake rolls, and generously filled Abai sausage with squid—the selection is truly broad. From little children to grandparents, the whole family can pick exactly what they want and enjoy a happy meal here!

My family ordered 3 Chodang sundubu and 1 spicy sundubu. I was already salivating... The flavors you know are the most dangerous...
Side dishes to enjoy with sundubu

There are various side dishes that pair beautifully with the sundubu. Extra side dishes are available at the self-service corner, so help yourself if you need more~!
Would you like to fall for the charm of Sokcho Chodang sundubu~!?
Mild, silky Chodang sundubu

Sokcho Chodang sundubu arrived in a steaming ttukbaegi (earthenware pot)!! Just looking at it made me feel warm inside. The moment I gently scooped up a spoonful and took a bite, its soft, pillowy texture melted away~ The rich, nutty flavor of soybeans filled my mouth. It comes with a seasoned sauce too, but it is absolutely delicious even without adding it~! It was flavorful yet gentle rather than intense, making it perfect as the first meal of the morning.

It is lovely to enjoy the clean broth as it is, but mixing in a little of the sauce served alongside made the flavor feel even richer! The children liked it too and kept their spoons moving nonstop, haha. This is sundubu that both children and adults can enjoy without a fuss!
Spicy, refreshing sundubu

My husband chose the spicy sundubu. After a big bite, he exclaimed that it felt like a hangover cure even though he had not had a drink, haha. It was spicy, refreshing, and nutty all at once! He said the broth had exceptional depth and did not leave a single drop behind...
On this Sokcho trip with the children, a hearty, warming bowl of sundubu made for a truly perfect breakfast. If you are planning a food-focused trip to Sokcho, I strongly recommend stopping by Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, a Sokcho sundubu favorite with deeply satisfying homemade flavor~!
