Ansan restaurant near city hall for parents' meal: Yeongwolae Gondre

Today I'm introducing a great Ansan restaurant near Ansan City Hall that's perfect for taking parents out to eat — Yeongwolae Gondre.

It's located near Ansan City Hall so it's pretty accessible, and more than that, the atmosphere is clean and upscale, making it a great spot for family meals or dining with parents.

I visited by car and was able to use the underground parking, free for up to 2 hours, so I could enjoy the meal without worrying about parking.

A store with private rooms

Walking into the restaurant, the whole place felt clean and had that calm, tidy vibe unique to Korean set-meal restaurants. There were table seats plus private rooms, so it seemed like a good spot for a quiet meal, a parent's birthday, a family gathering, or a meal with elders 😊

That day we ordered the set for two, which included gondre rice, stir-fried pork, and mackerel.

Self-serve bar and unlimited rice

Yeongwolae Gondre's self-serve bar was really well stocked!

On top of that, unlimited white rice or gondre rice! True to a solid Ansan Korean restaurant, you can visit without worrying even if you have a big appetite!

How were the basic side dishes

The basic side dishes included lotus root salad, assorted pickles, vegetable yangjangpi, and more.

For Korean set meals, the main dish matters, but there's also the fun of tasting a bit of many different side dishes — and Yeongwolae had a good variety, so it was nice to pair different bites with the rice.

With the stir-fried pork and mackerel added on top, the variety of food for two people was great and the whole spread felt generous.

The taste of the pork and grilled mackerel

The stir-fried pork went well with rice, so it was great piled on top of the gondre rice, and picking apart the mackerel to eat with rice felt as comfortable as a home-cooked meal while still feeling like a proper dining-out experience.

What I liked most was that it wasn't just a lot of one dish — you get to enjoy a bit of everything, from the gondre rice to the pork, mackerel, and various side dishes!

So it would be great for visiting with parents, where everyone can pick out their favorite dish. The seasoning was spot on too 🫶

The overall atmosphere of the place felt upscale and clean, more suited to a leisurely meal than a quick bite-and-go.

Since it's a Korean set-meal restaurant with private rooms, it seemed like it would be perfect for a quiet family meal or special occasions like a parent's birthday or family gathering.

The tofu-packed soybean paste was also really hearty and filling 🙈

From the tangy, crunchy lotus root salad to the vegetable yangjangpi with a mix of veggies and the palate-refreshing assorted pickles, everything had a clean, mild taste that made it easy to enjoy with parents.

The gondre rice I was most excited about

And the gondre rice I was most looking forward to that day! Topping the warm gondre rice with the side dishes one by one really showed off what a proper Korean set meal is all about.

Being able to enjoy gondre rice along with the pork and mackerel, all for a reasonable ₩40,000 for two, made this a satisfying family meal.

And the sikhye (sweet rice punch) with floating ice at the end was the best!

When dining with parents, the taste of the food matters, but so do parking, atmosphere, and having a quiet space to talk — and this Ansan Korean set-meal restaurant, Yeongwolae Gondre, had all of that covered, which made me like it even more 😊
