When you're shopping near Nowon Station or meeting a friend there, it's always a question where to grab a coffee, right?
I was shopping at Lotte Department Store Nowon a while back and discovered Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters in the basement food hall, so I stopped in.
Cold brew 2+1: the promotion running now
Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters at Lotte Department Store Nowon is running a promotion where customers at the Nowon location get one extra cold brew for free. Maybe it's an opening celebration? The cold brew's discounted too. It's a 2+1 deal, so it seemed great if you're coming with a group!
It's a famous roastery café that started in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, so I'd been curious about it for a while — it was a nice surprise to run into it here in Nowon haha.

Lotte Department Store Nowon recently went through a renovation, and the basement food hall's atmosphere has gotten really clean and polished. There were plenty of new restaurants and dessert shops too, so it was fun to browse around while shopping.
Why Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters is famous in Suwon
Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters is a brand that started in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, back in 2017. They manage everything themselves, from bean roasting to brewing recipes, which gives it that feel of a roastery café that's really serious about coffee.
These days a pretty café is nice, but in the end, the coffee has to actually taste good for you to come back. In that sense, I was curious about how the coffee here would taste.
You can pick your beans, too
At Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters, you can choose your beans according to taste. The medium roast is known for fruity notes, a subtle sweetness, and a clean balance, while the dark roast has a nutty, weighty character like dark chocolate and walnuts.
If you like a bright, refreshing coffee, the medium roast seems like a good fit; if you like something nutty and rich, go for the dark roast.
Ordering the signature coconut coffee
The most famous item at Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters is the coconut coffee. It's a patented signature menu that's apparently sold over a million cups total, so I ordered it without a second thought.
It's a drink with creamy espresso poured over coconut milk, and it looked delicious just from the visuals.
What coconut coffee tastes like: sweet and nutty
To drink it, you mix the coconut milk at the bottom with the coffee on top.
Taking a sip, the distinctive nuttiness of coconut and the rich espresso flavor went together better than I expected.
I was a little worried the coconut flavor might overpower everything, but I could still taste plenty of coffee, which I liked.
Overall it's on the sweet and nutty side, so it would suit anyone who likes a sweeter coffee.
On the other hand, if you're not into sweet drinks, I'd recommend the Americano instead.
Whole beans and dripbags to give as gifts
On one side of the shop, there were various products laid out — beans, dripbags, and cold brew.
The dripbags had clean, pretty packaging, so they looked like a nice gift for anyone who loves coffee. It was fun browsing around while waiting for my drink haha.
Hours and closing days at the Nowon branch
Monday through Thursday it's open from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
It's closed on the same days as Lotte Department Store Nowon, so keep that in mind before visiting.
Final verdict on Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Nowon
Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters felt less like a place with wide seating for lingering and more like a good spot to enjoy a nice cup of coffee after shopping or a meal.
If it's your first visit, I especially recommend trying the signature coconut coffee. It's sweet and nutty with the espresso flavor still coming through, giving it a different charm from a regular latte.
