Nowon hair salon ash dark brown tone-down and scalp care: Yeum Hair

Summer's gone and cool autumn is creeping in, so I wanted a calm mood change 🍂 Time to say bye-bye to the bright brown hair I'd grown attached to and become an autumn girl with a tone-down dye! Here's my honest review of a Nowon Station hair salon that's great at dyeing, with dreamy interior lighting that won me over instantly.

Where is Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch, and how do you get there?

Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch is at 447 Nohae-ro, 2nd floor, Unit 201, Nowon-gu, Seoul, South Korea, a 4-minute walk from Nowon Station Exit 7. You can park at Nowon District Office or nearby public parking lots. Hours are Mon, Wed 10:00–19:00, Tue, Thu, Fri 10:00–21:00, Sat, Sun 10:00–20:00. Monday is the regular closing day, though it can vary depending on the shop's situation.

Being just 4 minutes from Nowon Station Exit 7 made it super convenient to get to. The building has an elevator, but it goes up and down between floors quite slowly, so I'd recommend just taking the stairs instead of waiting (it's only the 2nd floor anyway).

It's a hair salon, but the interior was so pretty. The big windows gave it an open feeling and let in great light, and with the green trees visible outside, it honestly felt a bit like a café 🌱

The bright, mood-filled interior kept me comfortable and in a good mood the whole time I was getting my hair done.

Hair before the dye: patchy brown with grown-out roots

I actually liked my original brown hair, but as time passed the roots grew out and the whole thing started looking patchy, which bothered me a lot.

On top of that, the color kept fading, making my hair much lighter than it started out — a bit disappointing. My before state really needed a clean tone-down.

My biggest concern was that I'd just let my hair grow mindlessly, so it was long but the layers I had looked messy.

Personal color consultation: ash tone-down two shades instead of black

At Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch, after checking my current hair condition, we moved to a seat by the window to consult and pick a color. I did want pitch black hair, but I was hesitant about going fully black — stylist Sarang took one look at my hair color and suggested mixing in ash to just darken it about two tones.

The best part of this Nowon hair salon is that the treatment isn't done sitting in a regular salon chair — you get to relax by the window with a snack while it's happening! Since the salon has such great light, dyeing my hair while enjoying the outside view turned into an unexpected moment of relaxation.

The scalp protectant always takes some getting used to for me — that cold feeling that's itchy and gives me chills. I mentioned beforehand that my scalp is sensitive, and since I seemed to itch every time it was applied, she went super gently and thoroughly.

She even put ear protector caps on me! Since I have piercings, I appreciated her being extra careful putting them on. (Though honestly, they've been pierced so long now that it doesn't hurt at all anymore haha.)

How dye application speed affects patchiness and damage

Personally I think places that apply dye thoroughly and quickly get different results in terms of evenness and damage — her hands were really fast. Just like that, I became a little baked potato at record speed.

Shampoo care and a private-room hair clinic in the massage chair

Time to rinse out the dye! She led me to the shampoo room inside. The sofa was really cushy, so my neck felt comfortable.

After the shampoo, I headed to the care room for the hair clinic — it was a private one-person room, so I felt private and relaxed the whole time, and the unique part was that the chair was a massage chair.

On the right side, I could even wirelessly charge my phone, and thanks to the wriggling massage chair's pressure points, I got a taste of scalp care heaven. I can see now why this is one of the famous Nowon Station hair salons.

The happy time starts now

Heaven time begins. It felt like blood that had been pooled in my head started flowing again. This place is a scalp massage gem...

A mist spray successfully filled my hair with plump moisture. The whole time, thanks to the massage chair, it was pure healing and happiness.

Ta-da~~ Hair-drying and photo time!! Stylist Sarang cut my mindlessly grown-out hair into a pretty high layered cut and even shared some styling tips. I understood it in my head, but I'm not sure I can actually replicate it myself haha...

This is the state after the ash dark brown dye and hair clinic! My hair texture is seriously the best... this glossy, silky feeling is amazing. What's interesting is that with black hair you usually get a lot of black water running out the next time you wash your hair, but the color fade was less than expected.

Adding the high layered cut made the back view really pretty too.

Rather than just darkening my hair overall, she pinpointed my original hair tone and suggested mixing in ash to lower it two tones so it wouldn't turn yellowish — it felt like getting color matched perfectly to my personal color! I just asked for a pretty cut, and she cut it to suit my face shape, so my face looked slimmer too, and with barely any damage to my hair, it's silky and glossy — fully satisfied!
