Spicy vs plain sundae-only soup and skinless sundae at Suraok, Juan

In short

Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch is a sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) restaurant right in front of Juan Station in Michuhol, Incheon. The writer compared spicy sundae-only soup with plain sundae-only soup and the ₩8,000 skinless sundae, plus a self-serve side dish bar. Soft, odor-free sundae and a rich broth made this a spot worth becoming a regular at.

Today's post is about "Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch" in Juan, Incheon. I live in Juan and kept passing by Suraok thinking I really should come try their sundaeguk properly someday — and I finally did.

Location and hours of Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch

I'll attach a map below for the location of Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch. It's right in front of Juan Bukbu Station.

Suraok Juan's hours are daily 10 AM to 10 PM, no break time. "Sundaeguk fit for a king," group reservations and solo diners welcome.

Suraok also does takeout. Picking up in person gets you ₩1,000 off every menu item, and takeout orders come uncooked except for the rice. The building has an underground parking lot too, so you can park for free downstairs.

An interior too clean to be a sundaeguk place

The interior is so clean I had to wonder if this was really a sundaeguk restaurant. There are plenty of tables, so it looks like it works for both solo diners and group reservations.

Sundaeguk comes in regular, spicy, and clear

Sundaeguk comes in regular / spicy / clear. Regular is the base version with chili paste mixed in, spicy is a bit hotter than Shin Ramyun, and clear has no chili paste — and you can order any of them sundae-only :)

There's a kids' menu too

They also have hot pots and drinking snacks, so it's great for having a drink with dinner!

They have a wide range of alcohol on the menu too!

Side dishes and the self-serve bar

The side dishes came out first. I loved that they were laid out so neatly in a row. And since they're not pre-plated but portioned out fresh when a customer arrives, the side dishes are in great condition too!

There were a lot of solo diners, and while eating alone you can even use the side dish tray as a phone stand and watch videos comfortably!

I tried the side dishes before the main dish arrived, and they went so well with the soup. I'm definitely going back for seconds. There's a self-serve bar for extra sides, so you can take as much as you want.

There's pepper and perilla powder on the table too, so add them to taste!

Skinless sundae for ₩8,000 — the portion is huge

I also ordered the skinless sundae for ₩8,000. I didn't expect much for that price, but the portion is huge!!!

Since there's no skin, it's great for little kids too, and even I found it super tasty! Dip it in a little salt and it's seriously delicious.

I'm from Jeolla-do so I'm normally a chojang (vinegared chili sauce) person, but they didn't have chojang so I tried it with ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) instead — and the ssamjang was really good too. Top it with chives and it's the best!

Spicy sundae-only soup vs plain sundae-only soup

While I was munching on the sundae, my order arrived. What I ordered was the spicy sundae-only soup. The broth really did look spicy.

This is my friend's plain sundae-only soup!

Two bowls: spicy sundae-only soup and plain sundae-only soup

The table filled up. I only had yogurt last night so I was starving and just wanted to dig in!! Seeing them side by side like this, the base broth color for the plain and spicy versions is completely different.

Since it's sundae-only soup, it's packed with just sundae. My friend and I are both sundae-only people! And the sundae pieces are huge!

I tried the broth first and wow, this is it. The broth alone gets a pass. It's genuinely delicious.

A spoonful of sundaeguk broth lifted up

Apparently Suraok uses 100% domestic beef bone broth and purified cooking water to make their stock. That must be why the broth is this incredible!

And the sundae sitting in that delicious broth — no need to say more, it's really that good. This is the plain sundaeguk and it's a full 1000 out of 100!

My spicy sundae-only soup really does look intensely spicy. The broth looked like it'd be great, and it was loaded with sundae too!

The sundae was too hot so I moved it to a side plate!

Once it cooled a bit I tried it — wow, they really know how to make sundae here. No off smell at all, and super soft! The broth is genuinely spicy — the kind of spicy that's great for a hangover and working up a sweat. The stock base itself is so tasty that the spicy version turns out really delicious too.

Sundae set aside on a small plate

This broth is the kind of combo you can't not mix rice into, so I did it right away.

And I added kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) on top too. Kkakdugi pairs so well with this soup! There was an elderly couple eating near us who kept saying how good the sundae was here. And honestly, it really was that good :)

Baby chairs and dessert coffee too

They have baby chairs too, so you can bring young kids along!

Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch even has dessert coffee — a total win for a first visit. Since I live in Juan, finding a great spot in my own neighborhood makes me so happy. I'd always just walked past Suraok Sundaeguk, but now that I've tried it and fell for it, I think I'm going to become a regular :) If you're looking for a solo-dining spot, a gukbap spot, or a sundaeguk spot in Juan, I recommend Suraok Sundaeguk.
