Yuseong Korean restaurant for family hanwoo: Worang Myeongga

In short

Worang Myeongga Daejeon Yuseong Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon, where diners choose 1++ hanwoo beef to grill over charcoal. Our family enjoyed a beef assortment, soybean paste stew, spicy mixed naengmyeon, generous banchan, and self-serve fruit. Verdict: a satisfying choice for a family beef dinner with plenty of cuts to try.

Visiting Worang Myeongga near Yuseong Oncheon Station

In Bongmyeong-dong, Daejeon, there is a hanwoo restaurant that is always bustling with diners, weekdays and weekends alike. It is close to home, so every time I passed by, I would say, “I should go soon,” but somehow never did. Then, after having sashimi the day before, I was suddenly craving meat like crazy. “Today’s the day!” So off we went right away, haha. This is Worang Myeongga, a great hanwoo spot in Daejeon!

Worang Myeongga Daejeon Yuseong Main Branch (워낭명가 대전유성본점) is a one-minute walk from Exit 8 of Yuseong Oncheon Station, and drivers can use the parking lot in front of the restaurant. It is open daily from 11:30 to 23:00, with a weekday break from 15:00 to 17:00.

Worang Myeongga is a premium Daejeon hanwoo restaurant where you can enjoy 1++ hanwoo at reasonable prices. There is a spacious parking lot in front, and if it is full, you can park free for two hours at the Siloam Building parking lot, making it an easy place to drive to. We visited at 6 p.m. on a weekday.

A spacious dining room and private rooms

Worang Myeongga, a Daejeon hanwoo favorite, is spacious and has an impressive number of tables. Even though it sells meat, the restaurant was clean and comfortable, which I loved. There are plenty of tables in the main dining room, plus private rooms farther inside. That makes it perfect not only for dates and family meals, but also gatherings, company dinners, and formal family meetings. Since we had reserved, we were shown to a reserved table.

Choose your own beef, or go for an assortment

Worang Myeongga also sells many meal dishes, including galbitang (beef short-rib soup), hanwoo gukbap (beef rice soup), and bulgogi, along with specially seasoned beef intestines. There are naengmyeon (cold noodles) and soybean paste stew to enjoy with the beef, too. Before heading to the entrance to choose our meat, we immediately ordered soybean paste stew and a bowl of rice for Tori, our elementary-schooler.

Worang Myeongga is a premium butcher-style restaurant selling 1++ hanwoo from premium female cattle aged 30 to 40 months, so you can check the freshness and condition of the meat yourself before choosing. There were so many cuts to choose from, as well as assortment platters for trying several cuts at once. We chose an assortment so we could taste a bit of everything!

The table setting and self-serve bar

When we returned to the table after choosing the meat, the table was generously set. The table-setting fee is ₩4,000 for adults and ₩2,000 for elementary-school students. There was japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), marinated raw crab, fresh kimchi salad, orange-dressing salad, steamed egg, hanwoo ugeoji soup, yuk sashimi (beef sashimi), raw omasum with pollack roe, myeongi pickles, and white kimchi. There were so many dishes, and every one was neat and delicious—perfect for enjoying between bites.

The ugeoji soup served as a side dish is the best companion for soju, haha. Tori’s soybean paste stew also had a wonderfully rich broth and was packed with tofu.

There is a self-serve bar near the entrance. Pick up king oyster mushrooms, peppers, and ssam vegetables (wrap greens) here if you need them. It was even stocked with plenty of fruit, perfect as a dessert after the meal!

Charcoal-grilled hanwoo assortment

Once the charcoal arrived, the air suddenly got wonderfully hot. The heat was incredible.

Ta-da—this is the hanwoo assortment we chose. Pure glowing beauty...

Beef tastes best when you grill a little at a time and eat it right away, so we put three pieces on the grill at a time for our family. At first, Tori was making such a fuss about being hungry that we put on four pieces so she could have two... haha. You can tell at a glance that this 1++ hanwoo is incredibly fresh and high-quality—doesn’t it look too good not to be delicious?ㅠㅠ Applause for Tori’s dad, who grilled away so the meal never lost its flow...

Ahh... hanwoo really is so delicious. It was incredibly tender, almost melting as soon as it hit my mouth. Because the beef itself was fresh and high quality, it was full of meaty aroma and juices, with such a satisfying nutty richness. It was delicious even without any other side dishes—just the meat. The kind of flavor that makes the drinks go down fast, haha.

We chose the assortment to try a variety, but honestly, we did not know which cuts were which and simply ate them. Still, it was nice to enjoy the slightly different textures and flavors from cut to cut. Every single one was satisfying. Everything was delicious, so we just happily ate everything—such simple, meat-loving pigs.

Spicy mixed naengmyeon and fruit dessert

Naengmyeon is a must with meat! It comes in two sizes: a meal size and a dessert size. We ordered the meal size. We debated between mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth) and bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles), then chose bibim naengmyeon, and it was nice that they also brought us mul naengmyeon broth separately.

Worang Myeongga’s naengmyeon is Hamheung-style, machine-made fresh noodles prepared to order. They say the broth is also simmered for three days with 18 fresh ingredients! The chewy noodles and spicy homemade seasoning went so well with the beef. I highly recommend the bibim naengmyeon.

After filling up on the hanwoo assortment, soybean paste stew, and bibim naengmyeon, we went to the self-serve bar for pineapple and oranges, haha. Worang Myeongga even has delicious dessert fruit. We wanted to bring back more, but held back because we thought we might burst.

Meal successfully finished with very full stomachs! We should come back around Tori’s dad’s birthday, the month after next.

Fruit dessert after the meal

The meal was truly, truly over with candy and coffee!

A spot for family meals and gatherings

It was lovely to have a comfortable meal in such a spacious, pleasant restaurant. The staff were also very kind, which made it an even nicer place. Each of the table-setting dishes was neat and delicious, and we were pleased with the tender, nutty hanwoo full of juices and rich beefy aroma.

Worang Myeongga lets you enjoy premium 1++ hanwoo in a variety of cuts at reasonable prices! I recommend it for dates, anniversaries, family meals, gatherings, and company dinners. It is somewhere I would like to return to around Tori’s dad’s birthday, the month after next.
