A large Sutonggol café where you can catch up for hours

I was deciding where to grab coffee with an acquaintance I had not seen in ages, and we headed to Sutonggol. Since it had been so long, I wanted somewhere with a nice atmosphere where we could sit and really catch up, rather than quickly downing a coffee. That is how I ended up at Luonto Sutonggol Branch, a large café in Sutonggol, Daejeon, with well-spaced tables that make it easy to stay awhile.

One reason I came to Luonto Sutonggol Café was that it is known in Yuseong-gu for chimney bread. It comes out freshly baked, so it is even crisper and chewier when warm.
Getting to Luonto Sutonggol Branch and parking

Enter at the Sutonggol entrance, then take the alley with Maha Café and the wood-fired pizza restaurant. If you blindly trust your navigation, you can end up on an unpaved road that is not in great condition. Luonto has building parking, so it is convenient for those driving. Since it was a weekday, parking was nice and easy.
A spacious café spread across three floors

It is a large café spanning the first through third floors. Guests can use the first and second floors, while the third floor is rented out on weekdays.

Luonto's signature chimney bread is famous. One chimney bread per person, of course!
- Plain chimney bread — ₩8,500
- Cinnamon chimney bread — ₩9,500
- Whipped cream included

I ordered an iced Americano for ₩5,800 and a Jeju matcha latte for ₩6,800.
Wooden goods at this chimney-bread spot

As you would expect from a Yuseong-gu chimney-bread hot spot, they also sell wooden chimney-bread goods. I wonder what they are for!

True to its large-café status, there were lots of tables. Most people seemed to order and use the second floor.
What is the second-floor outdoor dome space like?

Up on the second floor, there is an outdoor dome-style area. On a bright day like this one, with a gentle breeze and shade overhead, it was just right for sitting outside.

A light breeze was blowing, and I could hear the sound of the nearby fountain flowing. Just sitting there felt quietly restorative. If you visit this Sutonggol café on a nice day, take a look around the outdoor area before settling straight into an indoor seat.

There are also large tables where several people can sit together, so it looked suitable for a friends' gathering or a family group visit.

The building has three floors in total, and the third floor is used as a weekday rental space.
Freshly baked cinnamon chimney bread
They say this cinnamon flavor is one of the most popular chimney breads, so we had to try one! It is baked fresh to order and takes about eight minutes.
Paired with a milky Jeju matcha latte

I heard it is also known for lattes made with Grade 1A Maeil Milk and Sangha Farm ice cream. I ordered the matcha latte with milk. The combination of sweet chimney bread and latte was especially good.

The outside of the chimney bread has pastry-like layers and is so crisp! Inside, it is soft and chewy. Pulling it apart like this is the best way to eat it! They even give you the three-finger plastic gloves used for eating chicken, so you can hold it and pull it apart with your hands. Peeling off and eating it layer by layer is fun, and the outside stays crisp while the bread gets chewier the more you chew.

Especially when it is freshly baked and warm, that crisp texture really shines! The portion was more substantial than I expected. One is enough for two people to share.
Pull off a piece and dip it in the whipped cream! This combination is so good. The sweet, soft whipped cream with crisp yet chewy bread just keeps you reaching for more. ✔ Cinnamon chimney bread recommended
