Gangnam Korean restaurant for pollack soup sets: Yangeunine

In short

Yangeunine is a Korean restaurant near Samseong Station in Gangnam, Seoul. I tried its 48,000 won set of spicy pollack stew, squid bossam, and naengmyeon, plus its generous lunch options. Verdict: the plentiful set was especially satisfying.

Lately, there’s one place I’ve started seeing everywhere. It’s called Yangeunine (양은이네), and the sign makes it look like a seriously old-school local favorite,, while the menu has squid bossam and pollack stew??????? It just sounded impossible to dislike, so I went right away hehe.

Oh? The moment I sat down, I spotted a signed message from Lee Young-ja. If food expert Lee Young-ja has been here, that gives me confidence.

Ordering the Pollack Stew, Squid Bossam, and Naengmyeon Set

You order on the tablet at your table~! Of course, we got the Yangeunine set. Pollack stew, squid bossam, and naengmyeon (cold noodles) for just ₩48,000—a seriously value-packed set. They’re also running an event where you get chewy pyeonyuk (pressed meat slices) for writing a receipt review, so keep that in mind!

Yangeunine’s lunch specials. A single serving of pollack stew for ₩12,000 seems like pretty good value for a Samseong-dong lunch, no?! There are also lots of nicely composed sets, including mul naengmyeon with a small serving of bossam, cockle bibimbap, cockle bibim noodles, and spicy or mixed naengmyeon with a small serving of bossam.

The basic side dishes are simple: seasoned bean sprouts, fresh radish salad, and pickled peppers.

You can grab any other side dishes you need at the self-service corner! There are wrap vegetables there too, so make sure to pick some up for the bossam.

Generous Pollack, Roe, and Milt in Spicy Pollack Stew

The pollack stew came out first. They said it was already almost fully cooked, so once it boiled at the table, we could eat right away. Honestly, because the bossam set was so reasonably priced, I expected a small portion of stew—but what is this? When I scooped it up with a ladle, it was full of pollack, roe, and milt. They didn’t skimp on the vegetables either.. It’s the best......!

For reference, you can choose regular or spicy pollack stew, and we chose spicy. Pollack stew is meant to be peppery and chased with a smooth sip of soju.

Look at how meaty those pieces of pollack are. Even the roe didn’t seem frozen.. Why was the quality so good? The soft, fluffy roe was delicious.

Just look at those substantial pieces of pollack. Dip them in soy sauce, and that alone is perfect soju food 😎

Squid Bossam and Rolled Kimchi Samhap

While we were eating the pollack stew, the squid bossam arrived. Oh right, I ordered a set. Squid, bossam (boiled pork slices), chive kimchi, lettuce, and rolled kimchi. A whole plateful of squid bossam.

This didn’t feel like a side dish from a value set at all. There was plenty of it, and both the bossam and squid were in such good condition,,

Oh, and this is Yangeunine’s absolute mad genius: rolled kimchi. Hahahahahahahahaha ha.. I’d actually saved this place because I saw photos of the kimchi and wanted to come.

Plate of rolled kimchi

First bite: a samhap (three-part bite) of rolled kimchi, bossam, and chives. The kimchi tasted exactly as I expected. Refreshing and pleasantly salty, like fresh geotjeori kimchi. They even sell kimchi as its own menu item, and I totally get why.

The squid was delicious dipped in chojang (sweet-and-tangy chili sauce), too,,

And making a samhap with the bossam made it twice as tasty. The chive kimchi had that bold punch that is exactly my style.

A Clean Finish with Mul Naengmyeon

We were starting to get full, but how could we not eat the naengmyeon included in the set? Hahaha

And once you actually start eating it, it feels like a whole new dish, so it goes down easily. You can get tired of eating the same thing continuously, which is why sets like this are always welcome. We finished cleanly with cool mul naengmyeon 🤤

Wait, when we were about to leave, I saw there was also siraegi doenjang-guk (soybean-paste soup with dried radish greens) beside the self-service corner. No wonder people were eating what looked like doenjang soup? And unlimited bowls of rice at lunch only..?????? The value is so excessive I was like, are they making any money at all? It’s been a while since I found such a generous place among Samseong Station restaurants. Next time, I should come for lunch too!
