Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk near Jije Station: the atmosphere

Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak Branch has a tidy exterior, and its white sign really caught my eye, haha.

Even though it was early on a weekday, this Jije Station favorite was pretty busy! There are tables for solo diners as well as big tables, so it looked good whether you come alone or with a group.
The menu, from sundae soup to bone hangover stew

Here’s the menu! There’s sundae guk (Korean sausage soup), a sundae set meal, dwaeji gukbap (pork rice soup), and ppyeo haejangguk (pork bone hangover stew). I loved that you can choose so many options: no sundae, no offal, no head meat, sundae only, or offal only. There are dishes to have with drinks too, and takeout is available. We ordered ppyeo haejangguk + dwaeji gukbap!
Crisp kimchi and kkakdugi

First, the kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and kimchi—must-haves at a great sundae soup place! I’m not into them when they’re soft or too sour, but both the kkakdugi and kimchi here passed the test! They were perfect with gukbap, and both were so crisp and delicious, haha.

They’d also neatly arranged the various things you can add to your soup—such a thoughtful touch.

Pork bone hangover stew and pork gukbap
First up, the ppyeo haejangguk! Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk is famous for its sundae soup among Jije Station restaurants, but I always order the bone hangover stew whenever I come, haha. Of course the sundae soup is delicious too, but this is a quiet little standout, you know?

And then the dwaeji gukbap! It uses the same broth base as the sundae soup but comes with only head meat, so I recommend it to anyone who doesn’t like offal or sundae. The broth… seriously, it’s so rich and good 🫶

Above all, Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk near Jije Station gives you sooo much meat. Such amazing valueㅠㅠㅠㅠ With that deep, rich broth and chewy head meat, isn’t this the ultimate hangover cure? ✨

The hangover stew also had a peppery, clean broth packed with savory flavor! It wasn’t muddy at all, and the bones had plenty of meat on them!! There was quite a lot of ugeoji (dried napa cabbage greens), too, so it felt like eating at a really good gamjatang place, haha.

The meat was tender too, haha. It’s such good value that whenever I come to Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk near Jije Station, I order this and steal bites of the sundae soup someone else ordered, haha.

Sprinkle in some perilla seed powder like this and it becomes a whole different flavor! The broth here is naturally clean, but it is seriously deep and rich with not even a hint of pork odor. You can tell it has been simmered for ages, haha. If you’re looking for great sundae soup in Pyeongtaek, go with the tried-and-true Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk near Jije Station, haha.

It’s not that the bone hangover stew was tastier—I just ate it, so there are more photos of it, hahaha. Personally, I do prefer the sundae soup. It is a sundae soup restaurant after all, haha. But ordering such a variety of dishes must mean they’re all really good, right?! Hahaha.

Every time I come, I get a really affordable, filling meal at this Jije Station spot! Koreans and gukbap—it’s just a thing, hahaha.

So clean, right? Hahaha. It’s the kind of great gukbap place that everyone will enjoy, so if you’re looking for a restaurant near Jije Station, come by at least once!!
Final thoughts
A delicious, clean-tasting gukbap spot and a reliable Jije Station favorite!
